Ideas to compromise on friendly fire

Hey guys,

The idea that friendly fire is gone in the Infinity list has really bothered me lately. I understand the removed it to try to resolve/limit grieving, but it breaks the game play. I guess I haven’t encountered much team killing in Halo before. What I mean by it breaks game play is recently on Solace I was in a close quarters fight with an enemy, when his team mate used the incineration cannon that hit his team mate and I both, yet he was not penalized for a sloppy shot that should have killed his team mate.

I think if they left friendly damage on all the weapons that are not usable in load outs, it could be a good compromise. People who want to team kill will have to find weapons on the map to do that with – which will limit their ability to do so. Players will have to be more careful with how they use weapons like the incineration cannon and rocket launcher.

The plasma pistol EMP should also not effect friendly vehicles – this is the biggest style of grieving I have encountered so far. I would even go as far as to say put friendly fire back on grenades, since your stash of them is fairly limited unless you pick the perk to be able to pick up more grenades.

What do you guys think? Do you feel like the friendly fire system needs to be altered? How would you change it?

Not killing your teammates when trying to kill the enemy is a skill. Turning off friendly fire makes for sloppy players that will think they’re good.

The only solution to griefing that I can conceive is one where the software determines that you intentionally shot your teammate and boots you. There is no in-game way to increase a player’s maturity.

Ricochet - best thing I’ve ever seen for dealing with friendly fire.

That could work if the ricochet did more damage to the betrayer. This encourages careful use of power weapons and makes sure that trolls die before they kill their teammate.
