Ideas for unlocking skins/stances in Halo 5

Weapon Skins

In addition to weapon skins unlocked through Specializations, I thought it would be a good idea to allow players to unlock new skins once they master a weapon. For example, there could be an unlockable skin for the Assault Rifle once you have earned 1000 kills with it/completed the commendation. These skins can also be applied to the weapon your Spartan will be holding (more on that below).

Stances

I may be going a bit overboard with this, but hear me out.

As of now, there are only eight stances, and four of them are unlocked through either grinding or slowly working on them for many months. As for my idea for unlocking stances in Halo 5, one is unlocked at the start, six are unlocked with rank, and the rest will be unlocked after earning a certain number of kills with a certain weapon. Assuming Halo 5 will have the exact same XP ranking system, this is what I came up with:

  • Stance 1 unlocked at SR1 (obviously)
  • Stance 2 unlocked at SR10
  • Stance 3 unlocked at SR30
  • Stance 4 unlocked at SR50
  • Stance 5 unlocked at SR70
  • Stance 6 unlocked at SR100
  • Stance 7 unlocked at SR130
  • Assault Rifle stance unlocked after earning 500 kills with the Assault Rifle
  • Magnum stance unlocked after earning 300 kills with the Magnum
  • Covenant Carbine stance unlocked after earning 500 kills with the Covenant Carbine
  • Assassin stance unlocked after performing 200 assassinations on enemy Spartans
    …and so on.

The weapon stances will show your Spartan in a badass pose with that weapon. If you have unlocked any skins for that weapon, you can choose to apply it. For example, if there is a stance similar to “Believe” and if you have completed the Assault Rifle commendations, you can apply that skin to show off to the world.

That’s what I have so far. Hopefully it doesn’t sound too absurd. Thoughts?

to be honest i like the way they’ve done it, it actually takes a fair amount of effort to unlock a cool stance, thus giving it a certain credibility.

If it was easy to unlock the stances and armor they’d be rendered fairly meaningless. when you see someone with a sick stance it makes you think “-Yoink- this person must actually live on here”

More variety is always welcome.

I agree. I am fine with the system as it is and the one thing I would change is to allow you to swap your weapon for a different Loadout weapon if you’ve Mastered it.

Believe good, but you don’t like that AR? Believe with a BR. Believe with a Carbine. Believe with a Boltshot for certain superstars out there.
