So this game is very gun performance dominate, in my opinion, where every shot counts in a dual. I find it a little frustrating how rare assists are and it doesn’t seem like you are getting credit for some solid teamwork even if you only land a round or two on an opponent before your teammate kills them. I think having those teammates that land a round or two and give you the edge in an encounter is very valuable and it deserves recognition, if we can come up with a smart way to do it.
I have a couple ideas to suggest. One relatively simple possibility is “Mini” assists - as long as you got a single round into an enemy before your teammate gets the kill, without a full health & shield regeneration in between, you would be credited for a “Mini” assist.
Another more complex possibility is Damage Leading To Kill (DLTK), that could possibly be used alongside a mini-assist, that I would define this as all unrecovered damage dealt before a teammate kills an enemy. This metric could highlight a player that’s being a helpful teammate, even with a low kill or assist count. You could also throw another sort of accuracy metric in by dividing DLTK by overall damage to get Damage Efficiency (DE) . DE would tell you how many of your hits contributed to all kills in a match relative to how many of your hits did not. I think DE would always be great for Slayer game types but I’d hope players can understand it’s not something to worry about, especially in Objective game types where you are sometimes mainly firing as a distraction. Still, I think DLTK and DE would be cool stats to tinker with.
I feel like I get too many assists, I get people down to one shot then someone just picks it up, should have an assist-counts-as-kill medal or something like battlefield 4 does.
i like battlefields style of crediting assists, where if you do more than like 50-65% of damage, but a teammate finishes your kill, you get an “assist counts as kill” in some circumstances

I like this idea. It can be annoying when you’re just about to finish someone off, but a teammate gets in one shot and gets the kill. Of course you can’t be mad at the teammate, they’re doing their job. They should always try and help. But it’s unsatisfying none the less. This could definitely help.

I think the regular assist in Halo is already a decently high percentage of damage, not positive what, but it seems like you have to get the shields down and then some for an assist. “Assist counts as kill,” I think works better when you are granting experience for every kill, but Halo doesn’t do that so in my opinion it doesn’t really fit. What would those “kills” count for? I don’t think you can actually put them into the kill count for ranking.

It makes it feel better when a kill gets just stolen from you by some random.
What do any kills count for? Why do we keep track? It doesn’t matter, but if we are keeping track I think when they’re about to die from your teammate looking at them it should count as yours too.
