Ideas for Forge block design improvements

343 should strongly consider redesigning existing blocks, ramps, and walls and adding new ones to the Master Chief Collection if possible and definitely implementing such improvements on Halo 5. Here are a few suggestions.

  1. Do away with rounded edges on blocks- they would blend together more seamlessly with straight edges.

  2. Eliminate deep groove and glass patterns on blocks so that the surfaces of merged blocks don’t bleed through each other.

  3. Some blocks could do without vents- most notably the 2x1 flat. It looks ugly when trying to use it as a wall section next to a doorway.

  4. Rework the colosseum wall width and height to exactly 10x12 instead of 10 wide x 12 and roughly 1/5 high. It will line up better with other blocks and it would be easier to establish the true center of it using magnets.

  5. Add bigger blocks, bridges, and ramps. BTB map forgers would especially benefit from this because they spend almost all of their budget on structure. Also think about short and tall variants for all length/width combos Consider these block and ramp sizes:

2x8 block
5x5 block(1’ high)
5x5 block tall
4x4 bridge
4x4 ramp shallow
4x4 bank shallow

  1. Add magnets to the sides of ramps so they can easily snap on to banks. Also, the magnet placement on the brace, large brace, and ramp XL need to be re-aligned.

  2. Any structures already in forge maps like Impact and Erosion should be lined up with the maps default rotation snap alignment. The mining facility on Impact and the comm tower/tunnel on Erosion did not line up with rotation snap.

  3. $50 dollars is too much to charge for rails and columns. try $25.

  4. Speaking of budget- it should at least be raised to $15,000 and structural menu maximums raised to 50% more than they are now. The Xbox One’s hardware and dedicated servers should be more than able to cope with these changes.

Well- that addresses most of my wishes for the next versions of Forge.

Sincerely,
Todd Amacher
