Let’s be hypothetical and imagine Halo Infinite reintroduces the fan favorite firefight mode that many of us have been wanting ever since its unexpected disappearance after Halo Reach. Apart from introducing a classic mode like firefight from ODST (which people have been asking for a while now), here’s a few ideas/things I would like to see if Halo Infinite reintroduced Firefight to the franchise:
- First and foremost, please create a flood variant for Firefight, so much potential with just this gamemode alone. Why hasn’t this been done yet? - Taking inspiration from Black ops zombies, but not copying it would be amazing. Before you guys yam on me for even saying this, you guys should know by now that the whole inspiration for the original firefight in ODST came from COD zombies back in the bungie era of Halo. Anyway, think of it this way. As an example, maybe as firefight progresses, the players will earn points through kills and completing waves that can be used/spent to buy powerups like overshields/camo, vehicles, or weapons in the game. How would this work? Maybe in-between rounds an ordinance drop can be requested, based on the amount of points you have, you could hypothetically buy a warthog, or scorpion, and a pelican would drop it in the firefight map almost exactly how it was done in the BTB flight. Conversely, the player can buy weapons with the points they earned in firefight, and they will drop like the weapon ordinances in BTB. This wouldn’t be hard at all to implement since the assets are already present in the game. This idea is way cooler than an RNG mystery box. - Since the campaign will supposedly be inspired by open-world gameplay, I would like to see this design philosophy implemented into firefight. Maybe have mini objectives that once completed, can open up new areas of the firefight map to the players in the match. I’m aware that many parts of the campaign involving mini objectives were scrapped in order to clean up the campaign (this was noted in articles and I think a video interview). These assets/ideas can be reused in firefight with this implementation, and will create a unique, 3-dimensional gameplay environment for what was once a pretty linear gamemode. - I would like to see some sort of overarching story per map. It doesn’t really have to be deep, but give us something that would be rewarding for us to go to higher rounds/waves for. Maybe as the waves increase, the OPTIONAL story of the firefight map progresses. This could be done in conjunction with the mini objective idea mentioned in the last bullet. Think of this as a new/potentially better and more-familiar implementation of what spartan ops tried to do. Going back to black ops zombies inspiration, each zombies map had some sort of story or overarching easter-egg that would be told/shown once the map was “beaten”. Something like this would be awesome, and halo has so many things it could expand on, but many of these things don’t really require a whole book or game to do so. Hell, even spartan Locke could have a dedicated firefight story level, that would honestly be cool and 343 wouldn’t have to worry about scrapping osiris entirely for this game. - One more idea, PLEASE BRING FIREFIGHT EXCLUSIVE REWARDS, PLEASE. In itself, a story per firefight map could be a reward, but something unlockable like a helmet, a player tag/banner/weapon skin or whatever would be icing on top of the cake. There’s so much potential here, and on top of the gamemode being fun, it would also be REWARDING.Anyway, those are my ideas for a hypothetical Halo Infinite firefight gamemode. Feel free to let me know what you guys think. Also If you agree or like these ideas you should totally like… like this post incase someone at 343i sees it. Maybe if I’m lucky, one day I might even get that halo internship I’ve always wanted (ahem my email is open 343).
This is an amazing idea, I would love to see all of these implemented, although my favorite idea was the flood firefight mode. I’m honestly surprised this hasn’t even happened yet, especially for MCC. Please make this happen 343.

One could dream of a flood firefight mode lol

Flood (as they were in Halo 1-3) are an extremely boring enemy type, just a reskinned covenant/UNSC soldier and although they are extremely important to Halo (we wouldn’t have Halos without the flood afterall) if 343i don’t improve/expand upon them in Infinite then they might as well not have them return. I expect them to either have the flood in Infinite at launch or after via DLC so I’m with you overall here.

Why not just build on what was done in Halo 5? story based firefight would take an insane amount of time to do (hence why they won’t do it)
please bring firefight to infinite, 343

In the most recent flight for MCC they were testing a Flood Firefight mode for ODST although for some reason that did not come out with the Season 8 update, so either they are giving it more time to fix up or they will release it soon as a limited time playlist. As for Firefight in Halo Infinite, I like the ideas that OP has put up here and I would like to see some kind of in game progression system where your player character gets stronger as you go deeper into a firefight match. This would give incentive to play firefight matches for longer and would make an unlimited wave firefight mode much more fun than if they just kept your character static for the entire match. I also think they should have an option for an endless firefight mode as well as what they already have in MCC which is just a single set and you’re done. Finally while it looks like we probably won’t be getting Firefight in Halo Infinite for a while, I do hope they at least just give us a mode where they take the multiplayer maps that are already in the game and just have it where NPCs spawn in the map randomly and we could fight them for points and stuff. It would be super janky most likely and wouldn’t replace a fully fleshed out Firefight mode but at least it would give us some kind of repeatable PVE mode to do until the proper Firefight comes out, whenever that may be.
I really hope they add firefight to Halo Infinite, especially custom firefight on forge levels.
