Tomahawk00984’s idea for Spartan Ops
I think Spartan Ops (if there is a Season 2) could be made really awesome if Crimson was more involved in the story. However I completely understand how that could be rather difficult. However, I have certain ideas to make it happen. hear me out.
First off, I think Crimson should be involved in the cutscenes and have some dialogue instead of just being a team out there barely significant. While Crimson is given important missions, and is recognized as the most effective Fireteam out there, the story still somehow seems to be more focused on Majestic. I think we can add some focus to Crimson by giving them personalities and characters in Spartan Ops. I’ve given some thought and I have a few small FAQ’s based on this idea.
How could Crimson possibly strike personalities in game?
I actually do not understand why so many shooters are adamant to make the player’s character a mute. In a lot of the Call of Duty games, many characters definitely talk, but once you’re actually playing as them, they do not speak at all (which mind you doesn’t make sense in some cases where you would expect your character to respond, like when they’re completing an objective like planting a mine). All of a sudden, the last mission in Modern Warfare 3 has you playing as Captain Price, and for once, you’re playing as him, AND he is speaking!
Think about it, for once, finally in Halo 4, Chief actually speaks even in game while you’re controlling him. It’s no big deal.
And maybe some people might be thinking. What would your custom spartan sound like? In Halo: Reach, there was a default male and female voice for Noble Six. Frankly, I don’t see much of a problem in combining the two concepts and giving your character a default male or female voice in game (though we may need to have a small variety of at least 4 male and female voices just so each player on the team doesn’t sound the same).
There are up to 4 players per mission. So how would we decide roles?
This is where I was going with the multiple default male and female voices. Before the game starts, the voice patterns could be randomly assigned to each player. Gamers could also select their preference on voice and the game can assign them their preferences with clashes getting sorted by randomization. As for who speaks what lines, I don’t see a problem with Crimson being separated into designations of Crimson 1, Crimson 2, Crimson 3, and Crimson 4. In that way, the roles could be randomized by an algorithm that makes sure that every player eventually gets to play each role (so their probability of having a certain role is less if they just played that role, and if they play it most often for each mission). In that way, each mission could possibly need to be played twice, simply because certain players may have certain objectives while others may have different ones (Crimson 1, 2, and 4 could be defending an area while Crimson 3 is working on disarming a bomb or something). That would definitely make missions a little more interesting and worth playing more times than one.
How would crimson show up in the actual episode videos?
Remember in Halo Reach where Noble Six looked exactly like you (or player 1 whenever splitscreening)? I’m sure 343 can make the Cutscenes to generate the armor of one of the Crimson members (most likely Crimson 1, or whoever is the most involved in the video sequence. That most involved would have the player generated armor, and the player’s preferred voice, and all other crimson members that appear in the sequence would have different voices, randomly generated armor, and possibly even be randomized between genders.
Any other questions you might have about my idea, feel free to add to it, critic it, and feel free to add any of your own ideas to this forum.
