Ideas and Improvements to Halo

Post Here if you have any ideas and improvements that you want to see 343 implement either in Halo 4 or in future installments.

Tomahawk00984’s idea for Spartan Ops

I think Spartan Ops (if there is a Season 2) could be made really awesome if Crimson was more involved in the story. However I completely understand how that could be rather difficult. However, I have certain ideas to make it happen. hear me out.

First off, I think Crimson should be involved in the cutscenes and have some dialogue instead of just being a team out there barely significant. While Crimson is given important missions, and is recognized as the most effective Fireteam out there, the story still somehow seems to be more focused on Majestic. I think we can add some focus to Crimson by giving them personalities and characters in Spartan Ops. I’ve given some thought and I have a few small FAQ’s based on this idea.

How could Crimson possibly strike personalities in game?
I actually do not understand why so many shooters are adamant to make the player’s character a mute. In a lot of the Call of Duty games, many characters definitely talk, but once you’re actually playing as them, they do not speak at all (which mind you doesn’t make sense in some cases where you would expect your character to respond, like when they’re completing an objective like planting a mine). All of a sudden, the last mission in Modern Warfare 3 has you playing as Captain Price, and for once, you’re playing as him, AND he is speaking!
Think about it, for once, finally in Halo 4, Chief actually speaks even in game while you’re controlling him. It’s no big deal.
And maybe some people might be thinking. What would your custom spartan sound like? In Halo: Reach, there was a default male and female voice for Noble Six. Frankly, I don’t see much of a problem in combining the two concepts and giving your character a default male or female voice in game (though we may need to have a small variety of at least 4 male and female voices just so each player on the team doesn’t sound the same).

There are up to 4 players per mission. So how would we decide roles?
This is where I was going with the multiple default male and female voices. Before the game starts, the voice patterns could be randomly assigned to each player. Gamers could also select their preference on voice and the game can assign them their preferences with clashes getting sorted by randomization. As for who speaks what lines, I don’t see a problem with Crimson being separated into designations of Crimson 1, Crimson 2, Crimson 3, and Crimson 4. In that way, the roles could be randomized by an algorithm that makes sure that every player eventually gets to play each role (so their probability of having a certain role is less if they just played that role, and if they play it most often for each mission). In that way, each mission could possibly need to be played twice, simply because certain players may have certain objectives while others may have different ones (Crimson 1, 2, and 4 could be defending an area while Crimson 3 is working on disarming a bomb or something). That would definitely make missions a little more interesting and worth playing more times than one.

How would crimson show up in the actual episode videos?
Remember in Halo Reach where Noble Six looked exactly like you (or player 1 whenever splitscreening)? I’m sure 343 can make the Cutscenes to generate the armor of one of the Crimson members (most likely Crimson 1, or whoever is the most involved in the video sequence. That most involved would have the player generated armor, and the player’s preferred voice, and all other crimson members that appear in the sequence would have different voices, randomly generated armor, and possibly even be randomized between genders.

Any other questions you might have about my idea, feel free to add to it, critic it, and feel free to add any of your own ideas to this forum.

Missions that are unique to Halo. I mean since it’s not part of the main campaign why not use it to experiment with gameplay (stealth as an example), level design, introduce new variations of an enemy, new vehicles, you know have fun experimenting. It would hurt anyone

How do you mean? I like the idea of attempting stealth especially since it kinda gets boring to always do assault on foot or in Warthogs. I’d love to see a dogfight, maybe flying Broadswords against Banshees just like Halo: Reach’s level Long Night of Solace. Definitely agree with level design.

But I’m wondering what you mean with introducing new variations of enemies or vehicles. Do you mean modifying our current set, or actually making new vehicles? because actual new stuff may be a bit of a push and would probably be appropriate on another installment of Halo.

yea fix the lag issues in online multiplayer

Fix the AR’s accuracy. I swear, this weapon update made the AR a piece of -Yoink-. The whole weapon update is good, but the descriptions given are horribly inaccurate. It was said that with shields down, the AR only took 3-5 bullets to kill… bullcrap.

To compensate for the 30% damage increase for vehicles (WTSF!!!???) I would drastically decrease the amount of damage they need to take before blowing up. Seriously IDK about you, but I don’t like it that even small vehicles like mongooses and ghosts can withstand 2-4 grenades + people continuously shooting at it. Maybe increase how hard you need to hit someone before they die from vehicle impact, too. I mean, it’s a mother-effing ghost. I shouldn’t be killed by bumping into it.

The weapon update, because of the extreme nerf to AR and extreme buff to precision weapons is a bit unbalanced now. People who arent good with precision weapons shouldnt be punished, yet it seems like that is what 343 intended to do with this update and for someone like me who is on camera speed 3 and still feels that it is too fast for zoomed precision weapons, it’s frankly just annoying as hell that I am now officially at a loss in terms of what weapons i can do good with.

With the H5 announcement for 2014, it’s pretty clear H4 is now “As Is” and exceedingly unlikely to ever be fixed. That’s why they did that TU to allow weapons be tuned externally without changing the game - no game code will ever be changed - hence no fixes for the broken multiplayer game play.

Instead of doing more useless “Weapon Tuning”, I want the following issues addressed.

343 needs to add option for players to have connection filters (i.e. “Best Connection Only” as in Reach / COD to match up players with similar ping / connection rates, “Local Players Only” so they aren’t playing in games with players from all over the world in a single game), stop giving new Xbox gamers host without evaluating each game to select best host, and let users turn off JIP if they want to. Check the lists cause the number of people whom have massive lag issues is pretty severe (I am one of them 70% of my games have been lagged by 0.5 to 4 seconds and I’m in Western Canada- especially in the last 6 weeks).

Secondly, the Game types selections needs to be cleaned up. Do not say it’s BT Slayer and then only have Slayer Pro game type for all 3 maps or Settler as the only map type and then have 3 different game types for it. Unless the map says “Grab Bag” or “Mixed Type” etc., the Game selection type in the menu should be consistent and reflect what game type your are playing. The number of people I see quitting early on when the only choice is “Slayer Pro” is 30 to 90%.

Thirdly, DLC content has been badly mishandled by 343. If you want to p*ss people off, have them buy content and then never allow them to play it. As soon as the DLC maps are released, they must have a permanent slot in the Map selections for that content. This in 1 week out for 4 weeks is just unacceptable for paid content. And the reason it needs to be a separate list is because maps are selected by availability, if one player doesn’t have the DLC content, those DLC maps aren’t made available to choose. People whom don’t have the DLC maps will be told they don’t have the map content, and not allowed to proceed.

Lastly if we are “wishing for things”, lets get more than 3 maps per vote. Either allow people to go through more rounds of voting (as in Reach) or have more maps available per vote (say max 7 maps if possible limited by number of players in lobby). Give people the choice of the maps they want to play all the time.

That’s my 2 Ms Credits worth of suggestions…

Add an in-game ranking system you can see, well, in-game. I played Halo 3, as did many casuals. They really did not care about the rank being in-game.

Make smaller, more competitive maps.

Covies need to speak English.

BTB needs objective games.

Forge needs to return to Halo 3 style. At least have non-gray stuff like Foundry’s containers.

Make an updated variant of Halo 3’s forge map, Sandbox.

Foundry should return also.

Bungie favorites needs to return. Just call it something else.

Be able to drop the flag and flag run.

Make it impossible to throw the oddball, except maybe for custom games.

Make the snipers not so easy to use.

Add weapon sprees while removing weapon kill medals.

Please remove distraction and comeback kill.
