Ideal Playlist setup?

I have felt, that with all the potential Reach has, it has been squandered(however slightly) in areas other than bloom, bleed-through melee and AA’s.

The matchmaking setup of Reach has (imo) reduced the variety of objective gametypes in almost all playlists, and the firefight setup has done none too good for itself either.

I know BTB has objective based matches, as well as MLG and Premium Battle, but I have missed STANDARD, 4v4 objective games, and I know that Firefight has 4 different iterations. But it doesn’t gel quite right.

So I have decided to, well, create an Idyllic (to me) version of matchmaking

"Competitive"
Team slayer
Fine the way it is.

Mosh Pit**(new)**
4v4 mix of slayer and objective gametypes

Squad Slayer
Should be changed to squad Mosh pit
6v6
All objective gametypes, including invasion variants
larger maps(invasion would only have the 3 standard invasion maps)

The Arena
Fine the way it is.

Living Dead
Most popular Playlist in Reach
Needs more infection maps.
Perhaps map specific gametypes.

Rumble pit
6-8 players, otherwise fine

SWAT
Needs some CTF / assault mixed in.

Snipers
Shotty snipers, anyone?
maybe some larger maps

Double Team
Fine the way it is

Team Objective
Scrap this. Hopefully mosh pit will be enough

Multi Team
Fine the way it is

Invasion
NEEDS MORE MAPS
'nuff said

BTB
Maybe some slayer gametype in every veto section (forgot the name)

Cooperative
Co-op Campaign
Not much you can change

Score attack
Needs some generator defense gametypes

Firefight arcade
WTH IS THIS!?!?
Scrap it and fire it into the sun with a giant slingshot
Ruined the classic firefight experience

Firefight doubles
Haven’t played it yet. don’t know

Firefight Ltd.
Maybe add a classic firefight gametype?(AR,Magnum, no loadouts and no AA’s)
Generator defense

Firefight vs.(returning)
3 Spartans, 1 Elite, each spartan gets one round(not wave round, 1 game round) as an elite
Same gametype setup as Firefight Ltd(minus classic mode)

Community
Mlg
Eh, I don’t play it

Classic
great Idea, though hopefully TU will make it better

Grifball
Fine the way it is

Action Sack
No shotty snipers
More wacky Gametypes

DLC

Premium mosh pit
Combines Premium Slayer and Premium Battle

tl;dr
my proposed MM setup!

Feel free to submit your own and discuss

Here is my idea for a new playlist setup.

The Arena: (Hidden 1-50 with divisions) 1-10=Iron 11-20=Bronze 21-30=Silver 31-45=Gold 46-50=Onyx

  • 4v4 Slayer
  • 4v4 Objective
  • 2v2 Slayer/Objective
  • MLG
  • Team Classic

Competitive:

  • Rumble Pit
  • SWAT
  • Team Snipers
  • Big Team Battle
  • Multi Team (4, 5, or 6 teams of 2)
  • Invasion
  • Team DLC (5v5)
  • Action Sack

Community:

  • Community Slayer (5v5)
  • Community Objective (5v5)

Firefight:

  • Score Attack
  • Firefight

Super Jackpot Weekend:

  • Race
  • Grifball
  • Living Dead
  • Any others that don’t have a place as an actual playlist, unless they get a really high population. (ex: Fiesta playlist)

For Multi team, it needs to go back to teams of 2. Whether it be Halo 3 style 4 teams, Reach’s original 6 teams, or an in-between. As for Grifball, it would be included in Action Sack. Infection would be moved to Rumble Pit, which would be expanded to 10 players.

As for Arena, I would have more adjustments other than what is listed. As for the hidden 1-50 I said, the percentile breakdown would also change. The breakdown would show how close you are to your next division. Each 10% is 1 level.

With my change to the Arena system, it would also require you to get Iron before you could rank up past General Grade 4. That way, you could still get all the Armour (except Haunted) without playing the Arena. It wouldn’t be as harsh as Halo 3’s system was. Seasons would still be in effect, but your rank would always reflect your highest skill achieved (ex: If you got to Gold, it would always state [in your service record] what your highest rank was, and when you got it, and If you are a Forerunner, people would know you would have gotten Gold).

Field Marshall- Iron (1-10, basically play Arena once)
Hero- Bronze (11-20)
Legend- Bronze
Mythic- Bronze
Noble- Silver (21-30)
Eclipse- Silver
Nova- Silver
Forerunner- Gold (31-45)
Reclaimer- Gold
Inheritor- Onyx (45-50)

Basically, if you got in any one division, you would be able to reach any level below that ranking. So, if in one season you got to Silver, you could get to Nova, but you could go no further until you got Gold or Onyx division. I would also make your current division symbol visible on your nameplate at all times, and your highest division achieved would be visible in your service record.

Unfortunately, The current arena system only let’s slayer get ranked, so your idea wouldn’t work with the current system.

I don’t see why Objective wouldn’t work. It’s all based on win/ loss. A win is a win no matter what gametype it is.

> I don’t see why Objective wouldn’t work. It’s all based on win/ loss. A win is a win no matter what gametype it is.

No, the current Arena system derives the skill level from the players kills, deaths and assists, and base it on the pool of players participating. Unfortunately, this makes it only work for slayer

I do get what you are saying though

Scrap Arena, at least as we know it.

Ranked (limited or no AAs, always DMR starts unless otherwise required):
Team Slayer (4v4)
FFA
Team Doubles (slayer and CTF only)
Team Skirmish (3v3, mostly objective [CTF and oddball] with a dash of slayer)
MLG
Team Swat
Team Snipers

Social:
Squad Slayer
Rumble Pit
Big Team Battle
Invasion (maybe merge with BTB)
Team Classic (CE:A maps only, alternate settings)
DLC (one of the map packs required, preferred matching based on this)
Action Sack (grifball included)

No, the current system is definitely win/loss. Your rating is still calculated on kills, deaths, etc, but your rating has nothing to do with division placement. I am 100% certain.

I LIKE it but keep Firefight Arcade I love it for the easy Credits lol

> I LIKE it but keep Firefight Arcade I love it for the easy Credits lol

Yes easy Credits, But it doesn’t FEEL like firefight, it’s just get OP weapons and blow the Yoink! out of everything you see. I don’t like it.

To get the last attachment on the Gungnir helmet, you have to be Mythic rank.

Other than that flaw, I like the idea.

Why does everyone want the Ranked system from Halo 3? This is Reach, not 3.5

It didn’t work well enough to stop the Black market from affecting Halo. It was TERRIBLE. I know the Arena isn’t the best, but it is still better than the 1-50

They could always just change the rank required to get that attachment.
