Since most people will agree that the camo gives an unfair advantage, I think it needs to have a rather nasty side effect. I was thinking instead of it using an energy bar, it starts draining your shield instead, this way it would be a bit more even when they ambush a player.
Realistically whatever you can do to balance it, it will always be inferior to AC pick up.
True, but I think it would give people being attacked more of a fighting chance if the AC user was already sitting at half shields. It would discourage camping with it for long periods of time as well.
I hate active camo as an armour ability, because in this form it acts as a defensive tool. As a map-spawned powerup it was offensive, and used to push for OS. Not to stay back and camp, which is exactly what the defensive AC armour ability promotes! Is it really any surprise 343 added “heat-vision”, or whatever it is, to Halo 4? Without any map-spawned powerups or items to promote movement, and the game gives you an ability to turn invisible, why wouldn’t you ‘camp’? I can just imagine Halo 4 now… oh wait, that’s Reach!
I don’t think camo can be “balanced” as an armour ability.
> Realistically whatever you can do to balance it, it will always be inferior to AC pick up.
It is true.
But I’d avoid your idea OP. Once enemy shields are gone, the outline of them is visible. I’d recommend just shortening the length for them to be in AC…
I don’t see Camo ever working in COMPETITIVE Game play
It simply can’t be balanced / it only works as a Power up like in Halo 3
Also with camo as a AA bomb games are far less fun as you can’t hold bomb and be camouflage at the same time ( and you shouldn’t be able to ) but it lacks the classic sneaky camo bomb guy aspect.

Oh I totally agree it can’t work in a competetive game type, but since it’s going to be there no matter what we say, I’d like to have it at least somewhat balanced.

It will be in Social playlist yeah probably / but not in Ranked playlists 343i removed it from Arena in Reach and I don’t think they would add it after just taking it out a few months back .
I could be 100% wrong and if so thats what TU/Changes are For .
Let’s hope 343i has learned what NOT TO DO from Reach .
I would just give it short, 5-second bursts of good camo with a 20+ second recharge timer or something.
It would be useful for flanking an enemy without them seeing you if you activate it when they’re about to see you. The short useage will prevent it from being camped with.
The significant nerf in useage can be compensated by taking away the radar scrambling effect, so that it may actually be useful for once.
All of this in standard matchmaking ofcourse. I don’t want the classic or competitive playlists being spoiled with random invisibility or jetpacking…

Those two things don’t mix with Competitive game play and I hope they aren’t in Ranked in Halo 4.
I really need to give Reach another shot. It sounds like they fixed a lot of the things I didn’t like about it.
i predict that active camo is going to be the new armor lock. just like in reach, its going to be a crutch for bad kids who likes to hide and croutch in order to get the first shot off.

I rather like the burst idea.

Active Camo has another use?
Seriously, AC = most useless AA ever. People act like it’s bad because everyone uses it in a nooby way, in truth, it has almost no uses at all. Noob or pro.
Just remove the camo part and make it a radar jammer. Instant balance.
Camo just doesn’t feel right as an armor ability. Make it as a pick-up and be done with it.
> Realistically whatever you can do to balance it, it will always be inferior to AC pick up.
What if they gave it full strength, pick up performance but a 2 and 1/2 min recharge time.
> Just remove the camo part and make it a radar jammer. Instant balance.
Haha, or this. Awesome idea.
Whats with all the hate for active camo? It’s one of the least used AA’s in reach, the most useful aspect of it is the radar jammer. To make it viable they need to reduce the duration but let you move at higher speeds while remaining cloaked, as in it’s current iteration the only way to stay cloaked properly is to crawl around the map. And in a fast paced game like halo that helps noone. Also for those crying about being ambushed by people using it, here’s a tip, brace your selves for this. Whan your motion tracker is jammed, be a little more aware of your surroundings and look for the most obvious place to ambush someone from. Good, now you’ve done this get ready for the hard part, okay. Now take a grenade and throw it at that point! Nice one ace now you can counter active camo, im proud of you.
