I had an idea the other day after seeing the forge leaks; When Forge does make it’s way to the game, I think it would be awesome to see community-created maps added into matchmaking rotations. Or maybe a dedicated playlist featuring community-created maps.
Map creators could be credited with, well, credits, or possibly an exclusive cosmetic earnable ONLY by having one of your maps curated into matchmaking.
However, this isn’t an alternative/replacement to a customs browser.
I’m more for the exclusive cosmetic/reward side of things than I am for the monetary compensation. Seems a tad too “Roblox-y” to me.
A cosmetic would allow a player who did something worthwhile standout a bit for their effort and dedication to a game they enjoy and support, payment on the other hand seems rather chintzy.
First up is a watermark crediting the author that can’t be deleted.
In Halo 5 I found an awesome remake of Beaver Creek. I deleted all the weapon pick ups and saved it to my file share to use for games of shotties. Then one day a player congratulated my on “my” creation. I had no idea there wasn’t any credit / reference to the original author.
And in Halo 5, if your map was featured in public playlists; you received the Olive Helmet as a reward for your efforts that you could show off in the game.
In H5 the “author” was the person who saved any changes to their file-share (no matter how minor). It must have been heart-breaking for people to see their creations being copied and lost to the winds…
Halo 5 did do that. But if you looked further down the map or gametype or forge prefab description, it also showed off the actual original author’s username.
You were credited for your work, but it would sadly be listed in the UI below the username of whoever’s file-share you were sifting through.
