In a late reaction to bsangel’s response to U4ix’s question about Halo 4 clan support, I decided to come up with a ranking system associated with clan support that heavily draws from other competitve ranking systems, and I think, offers up a different and possibly more enjoyable substitute to the 1-50 system.
Under the assumption that clan support will mostly emulate Halo 2 it will also be accompanied by a clan battles playlist hopper.
The only way to play in this hopper is if you and your clanmates play together in full party. This means that if you’re playing 4v4’s, you need 3 other clanmates to play with you.
Here, the system strongly emulates the way Starcraft 2 ranks players. After playing several placement matches as a clan, your clan is ranked into a skill class (like bronze-master, 1-50 etc.) and then placed into a division of 50 similarly skilled clans where a leaderboard displays your clan’s win/loss record alongside the 50 other clans. As you climb the leaderboards, your clan can ascend to a higher skilled group of 50 clans (Or descend to a lower skilled board if your clan gets knocked off). Also like Starcraft’s grandmaster rank, there will be a leaderboard for the best 100 clans in the world.
Clan members will also be able to challenge other clans on the leaderboards to grudge matches (Not unlike gamebattles).
While I understand the prospect of ranking an entire clan with a roster of 100 is pretty flawed, the system is largely designed so competitive teams of 4 -8 can play together and be ranked as a team against other clans. That said, it’s also designed so players are given the freedom to play with whomever they want as long as they’re in the same clan. The system differs from 1-50 in that it offers up a more personal competitive experience, as you can see the clans (and their rosters) that you’re being ranked against in the leaderboards, while also emphasizing team play rather than individual performance.
I know the CSR system has already been announced, but I think a system like this would add a little more depth to ranking in Halo, and offer up a fresh experience towards ranking in an fps.
So please, provide any thoughts, criticisms, tldr’s, or complaints about another ranking system thread.
Thanks!
