So, I was thinking for a while about how the multiplayer might work in the latest game, and I had these thoughts rush into my head. I don’t know where they came from but I had to express them.
This might potentially be the way to go. So, imagine if multiplayer were like this: instead of having various sets of weapons you spawn with, you have a set that’s pre-determined as best for the particular game type in terms of balance, and that game type is fit with a map. Now, let’s say these maps had these special sort of designated spots where weapons spawned. Not ordinance, but weapons! And they spawned there at the beginning of the game - this would allow for players to be able to have completely equal footing if they know where to find them. Now, let’s say instead of armor abilities, we have spartans that are a little bit bigger and move a little faster by default as well as take a little bit more damage. Finally, instead of earning experience in the thousands per match - hold on to your mind ladies and gentlemen, because it just might be blown right out of your head - we have only 1 experience point awarded, and whether or not this experience point was awarded would depend on whether or not the player finished in the upper percentile or his/her team won, and in addition to this we’ll have some sort of ladder system…oh, I don’t know, maybe trueskill powered? Whenever you do win a match, it goes up, and it goes down when you don’t win. And as it goes up, you’ll have a number, a number, a NUMBER, A VISIBLE IN-GAME NUMBER assigned to you per playlist that in correlation with your experience earned will indicate your rank! And instead of rewarding players who are already doing good with power weapons and power ups as well as gimped, useless abilities that no longer do what they’re supposed to because they’re too easily accessible such as camo that doesn’t work unless you’re standing completely still and a regenerator that barely does anything, we’ll award them after certain levels with more armor unlocks! And you could also expand the field of view a bit so we can see more, because this certainly has never been done successfully in a Halo game taking place in New Mombasa released in 2009 or anything like that, NO! It would be a tremendous innovation.
Finally, we’ll change up the weapon performance a bit - like you know those Marksman weapons that promoted slower gameplay in Reach that were fixed up a bit by making them bloom much less when fired quickly because, you know, this isn’t Counter-Strike? That was a great idea, but we can take it even further - let’s balance the weapons in terms of power and make it so that a weapon’s accuracy is TOTALLY INDEPENDENT of whether or not the player is firing as fast as possible and instead give the weapons that would otherwise be to powerful a fire rate limiter, because again, this has never been done before! Very ambitious stuff, but I think it’d work a bit better than tailoring what has been an increasingly niche game series since 2008 or so to appeal to the lowest common denominator: the current, trending, best-selling and most-played game series fan (or 14-24 year old “Bro” with his “season pass” pre-ordered basically before the game even releases), wouldn’t you think?
I know, I know - it’s a lot to take in. Just let me know what you think about it!
