Alright so I really loved Infinite. I can’t wait for more Master Chief goodness and continuing the story of re-taking Installation 07.
But…I’m also a huge ODST fan. I loved that game - it really was the first open world Halo, and Infinite presents so many opportunities to capitalize on that.
My idea:
We know from field-logs in Infinite that Osiris was tasked with some kind of top-secret mission after Chief opted to deliver Weapon personally. We also know that, somehow, Spartan Killer Hyperius obtained Locke’s helmet and was using it as a shoulder pauldron when MC whacked him.
What if Locke and Osiris are not dead? What if, prior to their top secret mission, they were undergoing a retrofit onboard Infinity, to fit them with the new MKVII armor, and the Banished attack happened while they were without their armor?
Per H:Infinite logs, we know there’s at least one team of Helljumpers active on Installation 07. What if Team Osiris managed to evacuate with them, but without their armor? It would make sense. Buck is a former ODST and surely still has friends in that chain of command.
It just seems too well set up not to take advantage of, doesn’t it? Buck, former ODST. Team Osiris, without armor, acting as the leadership for an escaped team of Helljumpers? Maybe Locke did get defeated and/or captured and Buck assumed command of a Helljumper unit?
I have no idea where the story would go, because there’s so many options. There’s a crashed Guardian visible on Installation 07…maybe the Helljumpers lead by Buck could try to find a way to use it? Or maybe that Guardian was taken down by Buck’s helljumpers in the 6 months while Chief was getting frosty in space, and that’s the ODST-2 story?
It would just be…a whole lot of fun. Playing as a Spartan, but no armor, integrated into an ODST unit. Maybe introduce some new stealth elements. Silenced weapons, assassinations - things missing from the main campaign.
