Idea for Halo Infinite's Ranking System

This is an idea I had in mind for quite awhile and I hope Infinite adopts it.
EDIT: Increased XP cap for General ranks. Increased CSR to 5000 up from 100. Placement matches reduced to 5 down from 10. A new CSR rank Top 500.

This idea of a ranking system for Halo Infinite will take inspiration from Overwatch’s Comp rank and Halo 3’s EXP progression system. First, let’s talk about the new CSR system. The CSR system from Halo 5 Guardians makes a return with some big changes. It remains to use a league-like system from other games you’ve seen used. The big change is that the 1-50 SR from Halo 3 returns with the cap being drastically increased from 50 to a whopping 6000.
The division ranks return as well, but the 6 tiers are removed and will only have one rank for each division. There’s 2 new ranks being added to the CSR division ranks, Iron and Top 500. Placement matches have been reduced to 5 down from 10. The Champ rank has been renamed to Spartan. These are the CSR numerical values for each division!

Iron 1-499
Bronze 500-999
Silver 1000-1999
Gold 2000-2999
Plat 3000-3999
Diamond 4000-4499
Onyx 4500-4999
Spartan 5000- 5499
Top 500 5500+

Now, let’s get on to the EXP progression system and its global ranks! The way you earn experience will be the same as it was in Halo 3. Every won match in Social will net you 1XP while a loss will give you none. In Ranked, a win will give you 2XP instead of 1. This is a small change that’ll reward players that continuously play Ranked. The Penalty system will also be the same with some changes. In Social, quitting early or getting booted will deduct your XP by 2 while in Ranked it’ll deduct 5 instead of the usual 1XP deduction.
A new mechanic is being added to the EXP progression system and it’s called consecutive wins. After winning 3 matches, your XP reward at the end of a match will be increased by 1. This applies to both Social and Ranked. The consecutive win XP rewards caps at 5XP total. Speaking of XP rewards, challenges and commendations that rewards XP makes a return. One small change is that challenges are now weekly.
There will be a total of 5 weekly challenges that players will be able to tackle. There’s one downside is that Weekly Challenges are exclusive only to Multiplayer. Each challenge will net you 2XP per completion granting a total of 10XP. You may be wondering why it’s so low. At the early ranks it’s fairly easy to rank up and the cap is low.
However, as you increase in rank the weekly challenges will accommodate your rank to make progression slightly easier. There’s a total of 7 tiers for commendations Iron to Onyx. One new way to earn EXP is by beating the Campaign once on any difficulty. Each difficulty will net you XP the higher the difficulty the higher the reward. Here are the EXP values for each tier in Multiplayer, Campaign and the difficulty rewards!

Multiplayer Commendation Tiers:
Iron - 5XP
Bronze - 10XP
Silver - 15XP
Gold - 20XP
Platinum - 50XP
Diamond - 75XP
Onyx - 125XP

Campaign Commendation Tiers:
Iron - 2XP
Bronze - 4XP

Campaign Difficulty Completion:
Easy - 25XP
Normal - 50XP

Legendary - 100XP

Finally, let’s get to the Spartan Ranks! They return now with a military rank in place of each SR. The military ranks will take inspiration from Halo 3, Reach and MCC. There’s a total of 110 Spartan Ranks. Here are the current EXP values for the Spartan Ranks and Weekly Challenges!

Not a bad idea but for the progression EXP based rank, keep in mind members of Spartan Operations don’t technically have ranks. As Musa said, “Spartan is your rank.” They are however technically commissioned officers (although that was likely just for them to have more operational freedom) and given responsibilities similar to some ranks depending on their role and level of responsibility so the chances of a formal rank title near their Spartan Rank number may not fit 343’s image. Deducting exp sounds a little cruel but i’m sure it will get people who care to quit less. And being a certain Spartan Rank to play ranked sounds over the top but it might get players to stop using new accounts just boost their own image so it may work.

Internally the CSR is based on TrueSkill or one of it’s iterations. How that is presented game side doesn’t really matter 1-50, 1-100, a list of precious metals. Personally I like the H5 system to the simple 1-50.

The idea of linking the CSR to the SR is interesting.

But the problem is that the CSR needs to be reset each season. We simply can’t go back to the old system and how it was constantly abused. So, how could you work your new SR system with seasonal CSR’s. Maybe base it off your previous best CSR… or your average CSR over the last few seasons. Or would it be so bad to lose SR ranks if your CSR drops.

I feel like Halo 4 got around the Spartan’s military rank by having specializations, such as Pathfinder, Operator, Engineer and so on.
Perhaps they could use these specialization names, with 5 to 10 grades each, to replace the formal ranks?

These would be cool. It would be interesting to see how those ranks would propose certain benefits such as armor unlocks, weapon skins, etc.

Not sure how the ranks are in lore, but I’m basing them off the games mainly from H3, Reach and MCC. I kept the SR simply for aesthetic and have it as number level just to be precise. The deduction on exp does sound a bit cruel for Teamkillers and early quitters, but it probably won’t stop them since they could make a throw away account. Being a certain Spartan Rank does sound over the top, but I thought of ways of getting there quicker. For example, beating the Campaign on a certain difficulty.

I like the CSR in Halo 5 as well, but the only thing I’m not a fan of are the 10 placement matches and seasonal resets. The placement matches felt like a drag to Halo when it comes to getting rank in multiple playlists. I’d go on ahead and just remove seasonal CSR. It’s one of the worst especially a game like Halo when it has multiple rank playlists. Having it removed every 2-3 months is very counterproductive in Halo ranked playlists especially in MCC. Imagine getting Champs in all playlists just for all of it to disappear. Although, having it based on your highest CSR within a season does seems like a good way on keeping you global rank. If there was another solution it’ll be Skill Decay.
