Idea for game type: Survive against Flood

This is an idea for a coop game type. I don’t know if there bringing back Firefight but whatever they make then I think they should a game type where you have to survive against the Flood.

-Enemies are unlimited but it goes by levels. When a level is finished, you have time to look for new weapons. When you are ready to start the next level just press A or whatever button and it will start.

-Since the enemies are infinite it’s fair that players have infinite ammo. Be careful using those rockets though since the little flood spores love to jump in your face.

-You can go in alone or play with a team. The Flood can either kill you with weapons or they can take you over. If you get taken over and become a Flood then I’m thinking you either wait till the game is over or you have to infect your teammates.

-You keep playing to get a higher score and to achieve a higher level. The levels get harder and harder as you progress. As they go up the Flood will get faster, smarter and use more deadly weapons. You’ll start with an overshield each round and pick ups for more overshields will be placed on each of the maps.

  • There is no winning here you just play to beat your score and the scores of your friends.

What do you think of my idea?

Ammo shouldn’t be infinite. Having to scrounge encourages map movement, and makes the game interesting. Grabbing the best weapon and the having a spammy camp fest in the best holdout location would get old.

Essentially the basics of the gamemode Floodfight that was proposed about as soon as Firefight for Halo 3: ODST was announced.

Few things that I would like to add:
-Overshields aren’t necessary to start with, they just double your shields. I really don’t see why they would be something you start with, as opposed to something you pick up.

-No infinite ammo. Removes the need for players to scrounge around trying out new weapons and having to think conservatively about their ammo. Creates depth to make players defend and move from one ammo drop/cache to another.

-Multiple Flood forms. Kind of an obvious one, but I didn’t see any mention in your post.

-Flood bosses: Juggernaut(s), (Proto)Gravemind, Giant flying Flood thing, and new scary, big, & challenging things. Really needed unless you want the game to turn from “surviving as long as I can because it’s fun” to “surviving as long as I can because even though this is boring, not innovative, and repetitive maybe I can impress people with how long I went without losing my sanity”.

-No maps, one map. A single huge -blam!-, multi-themed, multi-sectioned that unlocks as you progress, well designed map.

-No press “A” to start next round. Next round starts whenever it feels like it, there may be enemies still around when another swarm attacks, be prepared and quick to move if you need to.

-Bring back Medkits. They can be used to revive dead teammates, because again this adds some more depth into the gameplay. Do you use this now, early on, because your buddy did something stupid that got himself killed, or do you wait until later in case you end up in a situation that you’d be even less likely to survive in without reviving him?

-Have an ending. Players need something to work towards, and higher points don’t always do. This shouldn’t be something remotely easy to get. If I were in charge of it, I would make sure to make it a living hell that you would need to extensively grind through on Heroic difficulty(Guys let’s face it, Heroic is pretty much standard/Normal for most players).

-Optional objectives. Get cool weapons and vehicles that are special/some that are not in MM by completing these. Helping a group of survivors get evacuated by Pelican and getting rewarded with a Gauss Hog is an example.

Probably missed some suggestions that people have made over the years, but I think that’s the jist of it.

The Flood will appear from anywhere, so even if you’re camping they’ll start popping in your face so you’ll need the infinite ammo.

Regular FF has enemies appear even if you’re camping, there really seems to be no need for infinite ammo here. Not to mention you immediately lower the difficulty of the game by giving players infinite ammo.

No they don’t. In Reach FF I can camp in places and the enemies can never reach me. Like on that Outpost or Holdout map. In this it doesn’t matter where you are, a ton of them will start jumping in your face. What are you gonna do when you’re out of ammo? Beat them down?

Move to another location on the map searching for better weapons and possible supplies. Also making sure that the flood does not spot neither me or my teammates. I think theres a thread already similar to this but just a tad bit more in depth. You could get some more ideas from it or create something better than that thread. Good luck finding it though.

Actually I remember this exact idea popping up on the B.net forums back before Halo 2 came out. Then again before Halo 3, and so on. But that goes to show that people still would love to see it.

And I really like your ideas for it too. Very fleshed out with things I would agree could spice it up a lot. Especially the optional objectives and bosses.

Though I would like there to be an “endless” mode for people who want to see how far they can go. Like a Mythic mode that is unlocked after completing Heroic or Legendary difficulty runs. Or if there is a regular style Firefight mode, the Floodfight could just be unlocked/available as the default unlimited mode.
