I was thinking that either in a future update or in halo 5, that a steady nerf for the boltshot would be this. The plasma pistol/melee combo has always been around.I used it many times in 3 and reach, so why not do that to the boltshot?
Make the boltshot only take out shields at close range no matter the shields. If they have no shields then its a possible kill.
I mean halo doesn’t need a pocket shotgun in a load-out. Essentially the boltshot could be made fairly similar to the plasma pistol, therefore players wouldn’t need to fear an instant death from a corner, similar to past shotgun campers. I think the boltshot could be a legit choice as a secondary. Give any thoughts I’d love for some feedback. Please guys don’t just hate on Halo 4, i just want some positive conversations and hopefully 343 might notice this. See you guys on the virtual battlefield

If 343i did what you suggested, it would properly balance the bs as a loadout weapon. The mauler (brute shotgun pistol) worked similarly in halo 3 where it was either a two shot kill, or one shot + melee kill at a certain range. Add in the bs’ headshot capability, and you have a very effective weapon that can still hold out on its own even without a osk.

Do you honestly still have a problem with the bolt shot getting abused?
If you absolutely insisted on changing it, then you could buff the range it strips shields and drastically reduce the delay after an overcharge before you can shoot. That way you could shield strip and head shot.
Plasma pistol would still have superior range and emp.
