So, honestly over the last few days I have been thinking about how 343/Halo could implement new armors. This idea would be more for Halo: Infinite, due to Halo 5 being in its last year. So, I have been on an off of PC and Xbox games over the years and one game in particular always had a really cool loot system.
OVERWATCH… Yes… I know, right?
But, its not the loot boxes I am talking about, it’s more the way they make skins that can only be unlocked and obtained during: events, holidays, special occasions. I find this to be a oddly strong incentive to gain player counts during these times. For example, right now the Dr.Junkenstein event is going on and people are usually playing this to get easy gold or loot crates to obtain these new skins. Of course with Halo it would be a different process and implementation.
My idea for this would be make events such as “Haloween Infection” to unlock a cool holiday weapons skins, armor, etc. You’re probably thinking… "Really? Why would 343 make holiday themed items?". The way these would be implemented is by making challenges just like Target Master that ask for a specific objective to be completed but timed based for the month or length of the event. Maybe the items don’t even need to be new just some that kind of match the theme and they would only be achievable during certain times of each year. People that get it right away can show it off to new players and hopefully giving them the incentive to come around for next years even time.
Example
Sp00ky REQ Pack
- Event Based Weapon Skin(s) - Event Based Armor (Haunted Helmet…plz) - Event Based Emblem - Warzone REQ - Warzone REQ - Warzone REQJust my thoughts on it. Would love to see something like this… tell me what you guys think?
You get my vote, I would have no problem with events unlocking cosmetics throughout the year, Easter, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Xmas and other themed events. As long as you get what you’re playing for, if it’s rng loot based I’m out.
I guess that could work as long as the last update would include making those unlockables unlockable by more conventional means since Xbox one is going to lose online support somewhere in the future.
As for what holidays would be included, i guess the holidays where the devs are from would be fine enough. Even if those days wouldnt be special in other countries. Therefore I would suggest keeping event based stuff unlockable for a week or so given people tend to be busy on regular days.

Well events just as an example could be a month long or be a weekend thing, but they would be back the next year on the same weekend/month. Lets say a winter event: doing the specified challenges for the month of December would unlock you some cool gear that matched the event and would appear annually so new players could get it the next time around.

They could have a thing where maybe for certain holidays there are new maps and weapon reskins for a certain amount of time, they could have armors and emblems to unlock which instead of being limited time items you could use them forever.

I just think with all the wacky armor and things we have in Halo 5. This wouldn’t be anything to out of the ordinary, you know?
I would really love for Halo to bring back a lot of player incentive other then REQ Packs. Look at campaign… no reward for beating it on legendary???

Yeah I mean everything you get would be permanent. But you have to partake in the event, challenges, etc.
Here are some ideas of maps, weapon reskins, armor/customization, and emblems which also count for customization
Maps:
- a Christmas map where your on the infinity and there are decorations all around
- a Halloween map where you are in a flood infested area with animated flood roaming in the distance and you could activate an event on the map where a bunch of flood spawn and start trying to kill you
Weapon reskins:
- the energy sword is a candy cane
- a gravity hammer is a gardening tool just like the grim reapers
Armor/customization:
- an armor where there are antlers on the side of the helmet and a red nose on the front of it
- a customization option where you can put Emile’s skull carved out on your visor
- similar to Emile’s skull, a pumpkin face carved on your visor
Emblems:
- a returning emblem from halo 5 with a Santa Claus hat and beard on a helmet
- similar to the new flood emblem shown for the mcc in the new Halloween community update but it is a lot more gruesome with flood all over the place
I’m personally not a fan of limited time event exclusive unlocks. However let’s say they introduce some armour or skin during an event and then after the event is over it becomes an unlock you can obtain the regular way but just make it harder than participating in the event, I’m cool with that. Then at least you still have people who want to participate to get the unlock early and easier and then the people who for whatever reason missed the event can still get the reward afterward if they really wanted to, it would just be harder.
