Don’t know, anybody mentioned that before but the idea came up in me now.
Why (would) Microsoft/343i make Halo 3 ODST for Xbox One? What about Reach or Wars? The reason behind that because only H3 ODST can tell the story about Buck (and his team) to the newcomers. It’s very simple, yet it’s just an idea/theory.

I never even thought about that. I just assumed they picked ODST because it was another classic Halo, it didn’t have any multiplayer (except firefight), and it took place during Halo 2. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that introducing Buck was their number one priority, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that contributed to the decision to port ODST.
I couldn’t imagine them porting Halo Wars under any circumstances, so that would just leave Reach - which I still think they should port at some point down the line. I know they just wanted to tell Master Chief’s story, but they’re already doing ODST and he’s not even mentioned in that game. At least you can actually see Chief in that easter egg at the end of Reach.
That’s actually a legit claim, would make alot of sense. Players who are new too halo and bought the MCC only knows the Chief’s story so introducing Buck through Halo 3: ODST is a very good move.

There’s probably something to your theory, but I think it was also chosen because on a technical level it was similar to Halo 3 and therefore easier to program. But yeah the timing of the release of Halo: New Blood couldn’t have been coincidence either.
no just no… they did not make odst just to introduce a character into a game 5+ years later. its definitely the other way around… buck was already in games, so they put him in this one

That isn’t at all what the OP is implying… 0.o
If the ODST spartan somehow turns out NOT to be Buck I will be so disappointed. :’(
My guess for ODST being picked over Reach was more gain for less work.
My guess for him being added as a team member is that he’s going to be the main guy on Locke’s team questioning ONI’s motives. He makes sense from an in-universe standpoint and from a writing perspective he can be a good character to have for Locke to develope off. Buck knows ONI don’t always play above board.
Plus he’s just a popular character.
I hope the odst looking Spartan turns out to be Johnson with an eye patch and Mohawk
