Idea about sprint

I personally have no problem with default sprint in Halo 4. It helps with faster getting into action and cutting down boring traveling from one point on the map to another point on the map. However I don’t like runners who runs away after getting few shots. They are more annoying in Halo than in other shooters, since Halo in general has slower kill time.

So I have idea to prevent these situations: the less shield/health one have, the less sprint he can do.

I know in Halo 4 there’s even perk about sprint, so it’s less possible to implement this idea, but maybe for Halo 5?

Wow, look at all these games without sprint:
Unreal Tournament
Counter Strike
Doom
Quake
Tribes

They’re all just sooo slow paced and boring!

Sprint needs to die in a fire. Just give people 130% move speed and faster killtimes, hell with all the aim assist and magnetism the game is basically built for it already.

No this would help noobs too much.

What was once about a game of positioning has been destroyed thanks to sprint. It is basically a get out of jail free card, push a button and run away from a stupid move you just did.

Also its an illusion you really are not moving faster, the maps are -Yoinking!- huge to compensate for sprint.

Halo never needed sprint, but we got it anyway. When something is added to a ame that was never needed and doesn’t work the solution is to get get of it, not to nerf it.

If we nerf it it will just be more annoying that it even exists. Why have a mechanic if it does nothing? JUST REMOVE IT.

There is nothing wrong with sprint, personally I hate it along with camo and jetpacks, they can all suck -Yoink-. But considering its in since reach(even tho was only a AA) can’t really complain, them running away isn’t a complaint, because guess what as you also have sprint you can give chase.

I’m not sure if you have played lighting flag in action sack but sprint is actually removed and with the recently mentioned Legendary Slayer at GDC panel, I have a feeling it could be a sprintlist gametype(fingers crossed).

So hold out and see what they have to say on it and maybe if my prediction comes through you can hide away all day in the playlist and not worry about sprinting anymore.

Point is, these games are for PC. When UT3 came on consoles it was actually a flop.

When players moves fast on PC while shooting, whole gameplay is faster, which indeed may be fun. There’s only one BUT when you try to implement this on console: pad vs mouse. With mouse players can aim faster on enemy who moves faster. With analog stick aiming for fast moving enemy is messy, especially when both players are trying to shoot while moving (something normal for Quake’s or UT’s duels).

That’s why sprint clicks so well in console gameplay - when someone’s running he can’t shoot, when there’s a fight players moves slow so they can actually hit each other.

Precise aiming with left trigger (like in most modern shooters and Fistick control scheme in Halo 4) addresses the same issue.

But Halo CE had fast movement speed.

And Halo 2 compensated with more magnetism and aim assist.

Adding sprint to console games isn’t necessary. No one ever complained about Halo 2 being too slow.

It’s only when Halo 3 started changing movement speed, killtimes, and map sizes that people started having issues.

Your post just solidifies my beliefs in PC master race anyways.

I feel the same way! After sprinting halfway across Ragnarok I finally get to cover & see a sniper camping the flag on top of the base. I know my assault rifle is completely useless at that range so the best thing for me to do is already have the OP, I mean BR, at the ready so I can take him out but almost every time I get a couple shots off the sniper ducks behind cover!! I get sooo mad!!

What 343i needs to do is remove cover from the game & give me the BFG 9000 so I can wipe of the hole map in one clean shot. Then they can add a 45 second respawn time so I can move to a different area of the map & maybe use two shots to kill everyone because I would eventually get tired of OSK.

Or… Maybe they could leave the cover on the map, leave sprint alone, allow each player to choose their own starting weapons & armor mods! That way every game is different & interesting instead of playing the same strategy over & over again!

Was wondering if sprint and your AA shared the same bar. Or if Sprint was a separate AA.

> Was wondering if sprint and your AA shared the same bar. Or if Sprint was a separate AA.

That would be more acceptable to me, but still not ideal.

They tried to solve this problem by having players slow down their sprint when shot. Some people will argue that it isn’t enough. I don’t know if they can remove sprint in this sandbox because all of the maps are so big. I personally think removing sprint would also promote more vehicle use on the longer BTB maps, but I could be wrong.

These are the types of posts that quickly become ugly on these forums. I respect your opinion, but you can try to explain it differently rather than trying to elicit a negative reaction.

BEST IDEA EVER!!! /sarcasm
O and I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE!

You HAVE to be joking!!!

DUDE.

When you shoot someone in Halo 4, unlike Reach, that person SLOWS DOWN LIKE A SNAIL trying to evade a cheetah!

If anything, the slow-down mechanism needs to be thrown out!

What I don’t understand is why Halo needed sprint. I can’t remember any time in Halo 1,2, or 3 when I thought, I really wish I could sprint here. Instead, they added sprint by default and then designed the maps around sprint. Then they had to figure out a way to balance the sprint like slowing players down when shot. Why implement sprint in the first place? Its only 8v8 max anyway. Halo didn’t need gigantic maps.

Nevermind when they run away and you start shooting at them they slow down. Nevermind that you ALSO have sprint you can use to get a better sight on them to shoot them or chase after them. I can see unlimited sprint. Personally I use it but think it can be taken out, but I see no issues with normal sprint, seems like people are making it out to be a bigger issue than it really is…

Except for the fact you cant sprint and shoot at the same time lets just forget about that. If he rounds a corner he is almost certainly going to be gone. It slows down gameplay, there is no way around it. People can and do get away from making stupid decisions and they can get away with being out of position. Sprint is generally a terrible concept and quite honestly has no place in (what is supposed to be) a arena shooter.

I feel like removing sprint and increasing player movement speed would be a fair compromise.

“If anything, the slow-down mechanism needs to be thrown out!”

This guy. It’s why the AR and Storm Rifle are viable, and it’s why strafing in this game is more difficult. 4SK BRs, no sprint, and no slow down mechanism.

OP, calm the heck down. You need to position yourself better and learn how to flank.
