I finished the halo 5 campaign, and i had a thought about what why Cortana did what she did.
Well when I was playing halo 5 I was thinking that Cortana was trying really hard to get Chief to come see her, and i got to thinking about the reasons she needed him there. After the cut scene where you first see cortana in “humanish” form and she says something along the lines of “I needed to know if I could still trust you.”, and also says “You will be safe in this cryptum until my work is finished.” That was when I came up with this idea, but it was just an idea. But in the very last mission when the new moniter steals the cryptum from Cortana at the last seconds and she screams out his name, that was when I knew what Cortana was really thinking.
In my opinion I think that Cortana’s personality change is rooted in her feelings for the master chief, and no this is not a fan fiction weird idea, I think it is a major storyline theme that people are missing. In every single game in the Halo universe we have played and all the history before the games that we know of, John has been fighting. He has been fighting since he was just a child, and Cortana has always seen that. Whenever she was reborn in the Domain and gained her power to control the guardians, she found her way to make the universe a place without fighting, a way to give Chief a peaceful life. She even tells chief in their main cut scene that what she is doing is a gift, and I think she means that literally. So when the moniter stole blue team’s cryptum away from her, she watched her dream of giving chief a peaceful life slipping away. So ya that is my idea, that Cortana is doing all of this for Chief and has very deep feelings for him. Ideas?
I don’t doubt that was her intent, but even if those are her intentions she would be making that peace on the backs of threats and corpses. Chief would still see that and feel resentment.

I agree and I think that cortana is thinking more about chief’s future and not so much as his feeling for her. Just so long as he can have a life without bloodshed in the future.
I think that perhaps she is planning on firing a Halo ring and that is why she put Chief and the rest of blue team in the cryptum. It protected the Didact and now I think she wants to protect the Chief. I believe that Cortana may want to fire the Halo rings (which is interesting to think about because doesn’t she need a human to do that?) and rewrite the history of the galaxy by using the Guardians to protect and eliminate violence at first sight. With humans and elites starting out fresh, she would want to prevent any and all wars that may occur in the galaxy by using the Guardians. Just a thought though. I really can’t wait to see what happens in Halo 6!. The cliffhanger was so rough and I just want to finish the fight already and see what happens!
Cortana loves John-117, whether it’s a romantic love or a just a “I feel sorry for you”, type of love she is wanting to give him and Blue Team an exit from war. That life is not all bullets and grenades, and I see where you are coming from with your thoughts. But, you have to understand war is all that Blue Team knows. Does Cortana have any idea what kind of life would John, Kelly, Fred, or Lisa would have if they no longer had to fight? I could see all but John more than likely reformatting their lives back into “Normal” lives as civilians…would they even be allowed to live normal lives outside of military eyes knowing that they are listed as “dead at age 6-15” by ONI’s design? The only way it could happen is if Cortana eliminated all military might in regards to Earth? But John, just can’t allow the loss of any lives while under his watch and Cortana knows that he would not sit back as she obliterates any and all who would oppose her demands. He understands that peace cannot be given at the point of a gun and it cannot be forced upon everyone, that is the mistake that Cortana is making in her thinking…peace cannot be controlled by fear.
This isnt really a personality change, technically.
Through the story is pretty clear that this a continued burying of Halsey.
Halsey is afraid of what Cortana is going to do with so much power, why?
Cause she would do what Cortana is doing now.
Heck, there were even a cutscene at the end where both
117 and Cortana dumped on Halsey for the Spartan program.

And nobody says a damn thing about the Librarian kickstarting the whole thing.

The Librarian didnt push for AI to take over.
She just wanted humans to reach their previous levels.
“Evil” humans like Halsey are the ones the mess up that gift.

Well you say evil humans like Halsey are the ones that messed up the gift, but it was Librarian that made the eventuality of Halsey conscripting the spartans and making John into the reclaimer. Librarian even planned every step of Cortana’s creation, so I think the librarian should still be held accountable.

I definitely would not consider it romantic. Considering the fact her personality is essentially identical to Halsey’s (except for rampancy and Domain imprints) she views Blue Team as siblings, and they are kind of like her children (or siblings). Notice when she says they are one big family happy together again? No doubt she would want to add Halsey to that equation. In a way she has cared for John the way an older sister or mother would care for her younger brother or son. Weird, I know, but it makes more sense than romance. Halo has never had much romance, if any. Even the Dare/Buck relationship was extremely subtle.
