I think itd be really awesome if the chief came back and got to Reach before the war, time traveled back and altered the missions severely.

It would just be awful, there’s no doubt about that at all, time travel is always a sketchy thing, never mind when it messes with something good.
Plus, you said nothing about it either being a fan fic or be acepted as cannon, but even then, its just an awful idea for a fan fic.
Maybe if he went back to Reach, but not a time traveling story. So lame.
The term “Side story” implies nothing of being exclusive from the canon, plus in your own post, you compared it to ODST an In-canon side story, so don’t blame folks for misinterpreting your meaning there.
on the subject I would have to agree with everyone that Time-Travel is too sticky for me, I don’t like it’s implications. but that’s just me.

Lets refurbish your idea. Let’s have a flash back of him being on Reach? Perhaps the First Strike incident, and 343 can add additional relavent and chronological scenarios for action and story.

Actually Side Stories are usually canon. What you’re talking about is a noncanon spinoff. In terms of a canon game, just no. If they wanted to make a noncanon game then they can do whatever they want because it doesn’t matter.
