The cons of this terrible progression system mixed with the limited customization options of this battle pass makes me CRAVE for the days of loot boxes.
With the way things are now, there are a handful of armors. Not even 5% of what Halo 5 had at launch. Everybody looks the same. If you’re willing to fork over $20 USD or $26 CDN, you can get an armor set and be a little unique compared to the horde of players.
With loot boxes, there would be a larger pool of armors, you could get a loot box (typically in other games they are $1 USD), and you would randomly be given 3 unlocks. The random nature of a loot box would guarantee diversity in Spartan customization.
In other battle passes you could earn these loot boxes. In other games there would be loot boxes and a battle pass progression system.
In Halo infinite there’s only the battle pass and a scummy over inflated store. Since most players aren’t willing to fork over $20-26 for an armor set, we are restricted to the slowest progressing battle pass in gaming history. Guaranteed weeks in, most players will only have access to 1/3 (if even that) of the battle pass armor.
This game is not rewarding. At least loot boxes offer some sort of excitement. Especially if you get them by leveling up. Early on in Infinite’s marketing, a big point of emphasis was on how customizable and how “we want your spartan to be unique” was. That’s why there are no team colours right?
Well, with this launch it seems like that isn’t the case. This is the least customizable Halo game I’ve ever seen. No spartan looks unique. It flat out sucks.
Bring loot boxes back, and maybe that’ll bring some individuality to how Spartans look.
