If only I had better photo editing skills. Took me way too long to get it like this.
That’s fantastic.

Mother of God…
Amazing! The Eld is the symbol of the Mantle, and the Janus Key is meant to help Humanity obtain the Mantle. Beautiful!
Great find, but where would the other piece of the Janus key go? On the other side perhaps?

If we’re trying to obtain the Mantle…
We’re going to obtain our destruction.
Believing that the ‘Mantle’ could be ‘owned’ is what brought down the Forerunner civilization.
“A father’s sins… Passed to his son”
How very curious…is there another Forerunner symbol that could fit the other half of the key? And if so…I wonder if the two Forerunner glpyhs are meant to be merged together forming a new symbol.
I noticed that a few months ago. I think its just a coincidence though.
Maybe like a lot of other forerunner stuff the Key has another purpose. Its not out the realm of possibility’s.

I’m pretty sure that the exact shape of some completely irregular object fitting in isn’t just a coincidence. Trust me. Onyx’s on to something here. Great find.
How very intriguing…

Except it doesn’t fit because there is a second half.

We’re not trying to fit the whole thing in there… that’d just be a rectangle.
But considering that a half shares the prominent shape of one of the most important Forerunner symbols means something.
Foreshadows a greater purpose to the Key, hints at other secrets, just an Easter Egg or something, we don’t know.

Could be any of those things, but it could also just be a coincidence. With enough random shapes some of them are going to fit into others lol.
Either way I don’t think this is something that’s going to have any sort of significance to the storyline, even if it is purposeful. What are the chances that they start doing translation style interpretations, in the game, or even heavily detailed in the books?
Slim to none, IMO.
> Since you brought it up … I would like to point THIS out.
My god. They were foreshadowing the Didact before we even knew what the Didact was.
Halo 7: People pointing out stuff we shrugged off in Halo 4 which then makes perfect sense.

I too was surprised that the design existed in Combat Evolved … but the bigger question is, why did they remove it in Anniversary?
My guess is, it was simply overlooked because the design that replaced it is seen all over the place in Anniversary.
Also:
> Dr. Tillson: “Specimen 815, though that’s a bit misleading as we’ve been seeing these things all over the Halo. Icon is similar to other Forerunner glyphs, with the noted exception of a strong, vertical extrusion. Going to send this to Linguistics but… I don’t know. My gut’s telling me there’s something else here.”

Not in the lab … the Eld in the tube is perfectly circular; of course, she could be referring to the others seen on Gamma Halo, so you’re probably right.
Did you have any insight or speculation on that picture–this one–showing the inverted Eld in Combat Evolved and it’s removal in Anniversary?
Do you think it was always meant to be the mantle or just a neat design they used and later adapted it for the story? Why do you think they took it out for Anniversary? It plays a huge role in Halo 4 so having it in Anniversary would have been a great way to further continuity in the series.
