I'd Just Like To Remind Everyone...

We were all excited for Reach, too. All the gameplay looked fantastic, and all of our collective Halo glands were secreting maximum happy. It was going to be “the best Halo ever!”

With all the applause Halo 4 is getting, I’d just like to remind everyone that we are in the infatuation stage with Halo 4. Nobody outside the studio has played it for more than a few games, and I’m fairly sure that we were ALL still having fun with Reach in those first few games.

There will be no way to tell if Halo 4 is good until we all play it for a few months. Just keep that in mind before you all go head-over-heels about how “Halo 4 will fix everything and be the best Halo game ever!” Oh and I can guarantee you one thing:

It will NOT be perfect.

Temper expectations for maximum enjoyment.

Don’t be such a downer.

The community needs some positivity, some excitement… a break from the arguing and hating.

But I agree, don’t overhype.

Let us have or fun and enjoyment of Halo 4 for now.

I think the difference here is that with Reach, people didn’t like it because it was different, however, many people seem to be enjoying some of the new features and are comfortable with the game play; they are comparing it with what they like and what they don’t.

So I see Halo 4’s success rate to have shot up after RTX, as long as the game itself is a great 10/10 game i.e. it doesn’t suck in general.

I believe the community has changed.

I really don’t think anyone expects the game to be perfect. Are people excited? Of course they are, why shouldn’t they be?

There’ll be plenty of time for whining and complaining about what’s “broken” or “wrong” with the game after November 6th. Let people be excited about what they see for now.

Excitement breeds over-hype.

The game still has AAs. The game is adding to this with Armor Mods and Specializations. Some weapons still have bloom. Regardless of people’s infatuation-fueled euphoria after playing a few games, Halo 4 still has many elements that made Reach unplayable for some.

I’m not saying any of the above are bad things. I’m simply saying that we would be wise to remember the past, and learn from it. Nobody that disliked Reach should be excited about Halo 4. Optimistic, maybe. But not excited.

Thanks for the reminder, I guess this means my excitement for Halo 4 will pay off since I still have a lot of fun playing Reach.

I’m glad the community is feeling optimistic for Halo 4, but I agree, after Reach (hated that game so much after the 1st month I returned it to the store and never looked back) we need more proof that this game is well-balanced and brings the competitive aspect of Halo back before we declare loyalty to 343.

Yes, they’re still in.

But to most, it is all being improved and further balanced. That, is a good thing, something we can enjoy. Just because it didn’t work in Reach, doesn’t mean it can’t work in Halo 4.

And I’ve seen plenty of people who hated Reach, played Halo 4, and loved it. 343i is learning from the past, and that is also something to be happy about.

Its not hurting anyone. They can calm down later. 343i just released Forge, its RTX, there are a lot of things to be happy about. Let them be happy.

I mean, I get what you’re saying but I really don’t think the thread was necessary to be honest. Just because YOU are feeling that it might be overhyped or that people are wrongfully getting excited is still no reason to rain on people’s parades.

Everyone has waited a long, long time for this and trying to quell the excitement of those that like what they see is going to prove rather futile, I suspect.

By all means, be cautiously optimistic but you aren’t helping much by trying to dampen that excitement.

Nothing is perfect. I liked Reach, and I will like Halo 4.

But being too excited could set you up for disappointment

I don’t like the OP. He’s the kind of person that goes to a party, sees people having fun, grabs a kid, slaps the kid, and then walks out. Every one in the party stops having fun.

All jokes aside. Your logic (every one was excited for Halo Reach but then they found out it was bad) is flawed. Why? Because every one excited about Halo CE - Halo 3. And those games where great.

I got back from playing Halo 4 at RTX. It is very competitive and is a good mix between Halo 2 and Halo: Reach, which is great. Welcome to Waypoint.

Campaign, Spartan Ops, Custom Games, and Forge will be very amazing no doubt at all. it’s the Multiplayer I’m not getting overhyped about, because what a huge disappointment to me for Halo Reach’s, I will never overhype for a Halo game’s Multiplayer ever again.

Having played a fair amount of games at e3 and at rtx today, I can safely say that I will love this game. For me, halo reach sucked on the guns and the aas. Halo 4 has awesome guns paired with slick and well-implemented aas and executes all of it very very well. So, I remain confident.

They know that.

They’ll calm down by release, unless something even more awesome shows up close to release. There is no reason for them not to be happy right now, no reason to try to dampen their happiness and excitement.

But you’re right. Over-hyping and over-exciting can be bad. But its not hurting anyone now.

That was a time when I didn’t analyze games; when I didn’t go around saying CE was the best. I was saying H3 was the best, sometimes H2. Reach looked and sounded great. I was getting tired of H3.

Then the Reach demo came out. I played it immediately. That’s when I snapped and began to be very critical.

H4 on the other hand, seeing things like this is heartwarming. The sparks in the Conan video. The shadows. Actual AI (far better than the fail H3 pure forms and Reach skirmishers; I could often shoot them with little to none reaction from them). What I’ve seen so far is pretty amazing. I’ve thoroughly played all the Halo games, observed all sorts of phenomena, in both campaign and mp, so I know what I’m talking about.

When H4 comes out, I’ll have an elaborate criteria ready to review it:

-performance
-story
-cinematics
-immersion
-intensity
-consistency
-priorities (did 343 focus on the right things?)
-cohesion (mp modes are now connected to the story)
-replayability
-gameplay
-much much more

At the moment, I perceive 9/10 but this could be the game of the decade!

I completely agree. I just wish I would have gave myself this type of information before Halo: Reach released. I would have been a lot less disappointed and I would have saved a lot of time…

Why aren’t doing the quiz or at the concert?

Better than being a sour-sack all the time that nobody likes.
