I would wait to et Halo 4 in 2013 just for a Beta. Why? Every Halo game has had a beta or a demo, showcasing the game to millions of people.
Why is this important? Well for starters testing a game with 50 people and testing the game with 2 million people are 2 different things. You need to see what weapons are being used, how they are being used, what is OP, what needs to be tuned.
I do not believe this can be done (well) with an in-studio test.
This also beings me to another point, what the fans want. We all want a Beta and we all definitely want Halo 4 to be the best it can but we can;t do that if we can’t give our input in the development stage. I am also more willing to buy a game I have played in beta than a game I have not.
This may be the next Halo, but it is with a new company, new story, and new multiplayer.
> CoD never has a beta and look how popular that is.
I don’t care how “popular” Halo 4 is, I care IF IT IS GOOD. Without a large beta, 343i will not be able to collect huge amounts of data to make decisions on how to improve gameplay and nerf/improve weapons.
Also, cod is a gimmicky shooter that is just a copy of the previous version.

> first off, poularity dosnt matter. second off MW3 is STILL patching bugs and overpowered weapons. 3rd COD IS Yoink! and non competitive.
smh
Popularity=Population. When Popularity becomes an issue so does Population. Do you see where I am going?
I am not talking about glitches, I am talking about the game itself and gameplay aspects that may need to be altered (such as a weapons firing rate, range, and use).
To analyze this info and fix it, maybe 2 months to do, Bungie was able to do a Beta for Reach and have the full game out like 3-4 months later.
If the community were to play a beta right now, they would just complain and hate on the new additions. The wouldn’t look for any bugs or glitches, which is the purpose of the beta. A closed beta, with people who could care less about this addition or that one is a better plan at the time, they will actually look for glitches and could be professional.

Well if the community as a majority “hates something”, it should be tweaked or removed from the game. Bugs and glitches are NOT looked for intentionally in a large open Beta, they are found be accident and by the sheer number of people exploring the map and finding them by a whim.
Closed Betas only allow for a few people to express their opinions and they may be VERY BIAS, especially if it is only employees or friends of employees.
I think all a Beta could do, is make Halo 4 the best game it can be.

There is also the issue where a beta can cause a weapon to be nerfed really heavily like the focus rifle or plasma repeater.

Perhaps, but the community wanted that when they said so in the Halo Reach Beta forums and based how it was used in the Beta.
Halo 2 did not have a beta and Halo CE didn’t have any sort of demo. It doesn’t need a beta. Reach didn’t even need a beta nor does Halo 4. The game is tweakable enough that any problems can be fixed with a patch. Beta’s for Halo on the 360 are no longer needed.

The game has been in development for 3 years. They can change small things, but not something as big as sprint or perks. Levels and maps have probably already been designed with sprint in mind, and the multiplayer system is up and running, they probably couldn’t remove perks and fill the gap that easily.
Thats why you use professionals, and people from different areas with different experiences. If you want to test the game to see if you like it or if its clear of bugs, look for feedback after its release or rent it.

I still don;t see how collecting more data for Halo 4 gameplay will be bad. I think it would help the game a lot and I think a Beta should be incorporated.

No Halo games have ever had a downloadable single player demo and only two, Halo 3 and Halo: Reach, have had public betas. It is not required, nor is it essential.

Halo Reach did have a beta. And also ODST another Halo game that did not have a demo or beta.
