As the title says. Maybe implement it so you unlock ceartain armor by unlocking achievements? The REQ system could stay too, but some items should only be able to be unlocked by the players themselves, not the system.

Halo 3 was fun to earn stuff, I set a goal for getting an armor and I went for it.

Trust me, 343 knows that we want this. We’ve sent enough messages there way so they know. Whether they’re allowed to do it or not is another story.

Microtransactions are likely to stay. Frankly, I think H5 does a good job of balancing them. The system wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. For people who want to pay money to unlock stuff faster, we should let them.

As long as it’s not pay-to-win, i’m ok with it. But maybe instead of 2/3rds of the armour being just painted variants, I would like to see more different armour, even if they have to fill the req pool with helmets to shoulder pads

Agreed fully. Pay to win cannot happen. As for the customization, I’ve never cared much but if you’re going to have customization you need to have a variety of armor and not just different colors or else it will feel too grind-y and inauthentically charging people money so they actually get the armor they want and not just 7 different colors of an armor they dislike.
