I use the old fashion controller scheme (right click is to scope in, left trigger toss grenade, etc) and I am curious if there are controller schemes that are more suited for this game and all of the spartan abilities that they added. What do you guys think? Does the controller button layout give you any advantages or disadvantages or is it all up to personal preference?
I’m pretty sure it’s personal preference… You playing style is different than, let’s say, your buddies.
But if you get an Elite Controller, they’re awesome. Bottom button layouts on the back of the controller make jumping (A) and melee (B) sooooo much better. And faster since you keep your hands and thumbs on the joysticks.
I’m a helljumper control scheme person. I also use the elite controller because it’s amazing.

I couldn’t say. I do know controls matter in general. I recall playing Goldeneye a long time ago. The default controls had you looking up and down with the C buttons. When I made the change to have the analog stick be the look (which was a very new thing on consoles back then) I completely dominated my friends for a week… until I told them to change their controls.
I don’t know of halo is as sensitive to control schemes, but I would be interested in the stats.
I have been using the default setting for so long, that when I tried to switch, it just messes me up. Would love to use the elite controller, but I just can’t justify the price.
i use the halo 4 button layout with the elite controller. After playing with the elite I can’t go back to a normal controller.
even when i play ps4 with my brother it feels like the controller is missing something.
It sounds like what I need to get is an Elite controller 
The only tactic that bugs me is that with my controller layout I am not able to do that stupid crouch tactic people do when you are in a one on one battle I freaking hate when people start crouching up and down while shooting!!! I usually win if it is one v one but that is still just annoying to deal with. I have a theory that those that use the left trigger for ads have a slight advantage over people like me that use the the right stick click but It’s just a theory
