They fix they layout of New Mombasa. The layout of N.M. has since been retconned since Halo 2. For example the elevator is no longer in the middle of the city but on its own small island. This is the perfect chance to fix these small canon problems. All it would take is a slight change of cutscenes and skyboxes. I’m not sure how the river with the scarab battle would work but im sure they can find a way.
I would be greatly disappointed if they just did the old Halo 2 layout with HD graphics.
There are so many directions they could take a Halo 2 remake if they were to do one.
Original multiplayer or Halo 4 spin off?
The reason they said that they didn’t make CE have multiplayer was b/c they didn’t have the time to create a matchmaking system for the game and that it would effect Reach’s population. Halo 2 already has a matchmaking system, it’s just been shut down and the Halo 2 10th Anniversary would come around near the end of Halo 4’s life cycle right before Halo 5. So an actual Halo 2 multiplayer is actually possible unlike CE and since Halo 2 was known for it’s multiplayer I’d say it needs to come back.
Original campaign or extended?
It seems clear that Bungie has never cared about canon mistakes. Their number one priority was making great games whether or not if they interfered with other games/books/etc. 343 seems to be all about the exact opposite. They’re going to try and bring all of the games, books, etc. together in some way. Now could be there chance to “fix” Halo 2 to be the game Bungie always wanted it to be, but they still need to have it lead into Halo 3 and work with Halo canon. It could be like a menu option where you choose original campaign (w/ updated/classic visuals like HCEA) or extended campaign (only updated visuals since the new content didn’t exist for classic). If I were Microsoft I’d almost let Bungie do their own Halo 2 remake with the campaign that they had always wanted to do themselves alongside the classic campaign that we all know already just with updated visuals. Bungie hasn’t ruled out doing any Halo games in the future anyway.
Xbox 360, Nextbox, or both?
Personally, I would want all 3 original Halo games playable over LIVE on one console. I would absolutely hate it if I had to buy another console to play a game I’ve already played before. The timeline for Halo 2’s tenth anniversary is probably going to hit maybe a year after the next console releases. I’m actually surprised that Halo 4 is staying on the 360. I’m thinking they should have the Halo 2 remake hit for Xbox LIVE’s 10th Anniversary instead b/c why not celebrate that with the game that officially kicked off LIVE even if it wasn’t until well after it launched. They could almost release it for both consoles which is probably the best way to go. Halo 2 worked fine on the 360 before Halo 3 hit so I’d say why not do the same for the H2 remake? Players with either console will be able to play together the same way Xbox and 360 owner could with Halo 2 originally.
Do they stop at Halo 2?
If it were me I would make the Halo 2 remake playable on the 360 along with the rest of Bungie’s Halo games and then I would stop. Halo 3 already has a matchmaking system over LIVE and supports HD so it would be pointless to remake Halo 3. As far as the other games goes, I wouldn’t bother with remaking any of them the same as Halo 3. All support HD and LIVE already so they’re fine. If it were me I’d stop after Halo 2.
A Halo 2 remake is a big no no. What would be the point? If they remake Halo 2, then you’ll want Halo 3, then Halo 4 and so on and so on. It’ll be a never-ending cycle of remakes. Leave it in the past. Halo 2 was once here, now it isn’t. Cherish the times you had with it. Also, the Halo: Anniversary is literally to celebrate 10 years of Halo, that’s the sole reason of its existence. Halo 2 looks fine as it is on the 360, it works well in HD and still looks mighty beautiful. Plus, you can’t argue that it’d be for multiplayer because it’d end up being like Anniversary using Halo 4’s multiplayer with Halo 2 maps. Why not just have them release a Halo 2 themed map pack instead. Halo 2 was once an amazing and great game and it STILL IS!. If you want Halo 2. Go play it. But as remakes stand…leave it be.
> Just give us Halo 2 MM again. Everyone is happy.
MM? Multiplayer Maps? If so, I agree. They should release a cool Halo 2-themed Map Pack at DLC for Halo 4 including maps like “Lockout”, “Turf”, “Ascension” etc. That’d be amazing.

Match-Making.
Halo has slowly declined when it comes to Multi-Player. Halo 2 was the best.

> Pretty big assumption you got there. Why would be want Halo 3 as a remake? Halo 2 atleast makes sense with it being on the Xbox 1.
But then when we move to the next version of the Xbox (rumoured around 2014.) What then? "Oh lets remake Halo 3 and Reach and 4 because they were on the 360. Your argument has no solid ground. Halo 2 works fine on the 360 apart from Xbox live but so what? Do system link like the old days. system linking is fun.
I would be happy for a Halo 2 remake no matter what. I trust 343i’s judgment. I however doubt that Halo 2 would have it’s own multiplayer because the engine/time constraint problem and they would’nt want to split up the population.
I will say it once and I will say it again, it’s hardly a remake if there changing it.
Leave it as it is, if Halo 2 was remade, I would want to play it the EXACT same, not change New Mombasa to an updated version from Halo 3: ODST or Halo 3.

Or a Halo Wars sequel or spin-off. Or another ODST game. Or a Forerunner game like Knights of the Old Republic. There are better ideas than a pointless remake.

> So Halo CEA is pointless then aswell?
CEA means something. CEA is to celebrate 10 years of Halo. For that reason alone, I’ll buy it. A Halo 2 remake is just silly.

If the fans want it, which you have to admit a lot of people do then how is it silly? Using that logic video games at all are silly.
I think they should just do a visual upgrade and throw it up on XBL. People seem to get upset when you change anything so I think that would be a quick and easy way to bring it back. I don’t think it should be a major production. That’s just my 2 cents. Heck just allow it to be played online again and a lot of people would be happy. Who knows what they are planning though if it is a bigger production than that it will probably be awhile before we see it.

I know 343I is better than that. I do not want a simple HD version of Halo 2. I want a Halo 2 remake that is treated right and with respect…oh and with the N.M. layout fixed.
