I will never understand this.

You guys remove a ranking system because of people that manipulate the game by boosting, buying accounts, de-ranking, yet people manipulate the progression system that you have right now. Why don’t you just remove the whole system altogether and have custom lobbies where people host their own matches. Removing the 1-50 it was a dumb decision and your reasoning for removing was even dumber. No matter what system you implement, people will abuse it. That’s how it works. Your poor excuse for the CSR on waypoint will not make a difference either. Give the people what they want.

Oh and for the people that say “this game doesn’t need a ranking system” Look at the population. I’m pretty sure Reach wasn’t like this.

CSR, 1-50 and XP. I don’t care really so long as 343 gives me the ability to hide it, ignore it, and forget it so I can just have some fun playing Halo without K/D and W/L and what other people hold onto so much that it’s ruining my enjoyment of a video game by making it into some sort of a second job.

Other than that hope you get your visible rank, now show me the courtesy by saying I hope you get the ability to turn it off. Yay diplomacy!

Just ignore it then, it doesn’t seem like you would care about it anyway. I don’t see how adding an in game csr would hinder your enjoyment.

It would be awesome if there was an quick in-game way to check if my rank went up. I don’t want to have to exit the game after every match to check.

You don’t understand the reason, or you don’t want to understand the reason because it has been explained many, many, many times by myself and others.

Your Halo 3 rank was based on TrueSkill, which is used for matchmaking. It’s purpose is not to find out who is the best player, but to find out which players will be able to have a 50% chance of winning a match where everyone else in the game is near the same level (I know you know this. Bear with me).

If you reach 50 legitimately, TrueSkill looks for other 50’s for you to play with. If your team loses TrueSkill will look for, say, 45’s for you to play with. If your team loses that game… get the idea? You get lower skilled players until your team starts winning again. You shouldn’t drop too far even if you are paired with randoms because, if you’re near the top, you’re getting paired with people that are likely to win.

So when some guy that can’t play at level 10 gets paired with a bunch of 50’s, that team will likely lose, and that will likely happen until that guy gets paired with a bunch of 10’s. Thing is this guy drags down with him everyone that was on his team because they lost, and probably every team he gets on loses. You know how it was. Ranking up is way harder than ranking down. So this guy is going to knock around with the 30’s and low 40’s until he gets to where he belongs.

Now, if you were a 50 and encountered this guy, he soon disappeared from your games fairly quickly and you yourself were probably none the worse for wear. Those poor -Yoinks!- in the 30’s and low 40’s will keep getting this -Yoink- on their team and won’t be able to figure out why they can’t rank up. Guys like you will tell them they just need to “get better” and you don’t see what the problem is.

Well, Microsoft and Bungie saw what the problem was. Bungie detached rank from TrueSkill with Reach. 343i has their “CSR” coming out. They haven’t said that it is based on TrueSkill, but since they have confirmed that it will not be visible in game, I can only conclude that it is.

And I didn’t even get into people that think they should be ranking up faster than they are, so they start another account and try again.

TL;DR Too many players are not mature enough to let the chips fall where they may, and don’t care who get’s screwed so long as they get to make you believe they are good.

Population doesn’t rely on Ranking. You just taking advantage of the falling population to make it seems like it fits your opinion.

The population is falling because the game isn’t Halo. Feels nothing like it.

I am all for having your CSR displayed in the game. I don’t like it but at least I will have it on Waypoint. Its better than nothing at all.

In Halo 3 I believe the highest rank I got was 25 or 27 but it was earned legitimately. At the time I didn’t understand how to time weapons, claim power positions, or any of the other finer details to really make my rank go up at the time.

Now I understand so much more so yes I want my bragging rights that my EARNED rank gives me. I will never be a jerk about it to other players online though(except to my friends, but that is just in good fun). If I turn out to be a 25 again and one of my friends are a 30 that gives me that much more motivation to step up my game just so I can talk smack to him.
