Well, you’re probably waiting for me to tell you so here goes:
Bayonets. What if you were able to mount them to specific weapons, as it says you are able to do with several in Canon?
My idea of how they’d work in-game is that once you reach a certain proficiency with a weapon commendation, you’d unlock a bayonet that you could use that could just be there for the addition of a cooler animation for assassinations.
Could also apply to the “Hayabusa-Katana” chest-plate from Halo 3 in which you unsheathe your sword and cut a spartan in two as an assassination.
As a second sort of addition to this thread, I decided I’d link my EMP grenade idea and see what you guys think of that.
Here is EMP grenade thread. It explains everything!
Please post feedback upon the revision.
IMO, bayonets are too old-fashioned. However, its a good idea. Problem is which weapon would your put the Bayonet on?
If you are going to go that far, you might as well throw in the Halo 3 katana. Except in new version, you would be able to use it for assassination animations and slice someone’s head off.
Aesthic Weapon Attachments…
If the Brutes came back, this would be a great thematic addition as one of their options for customization, as apposed to the silencers and such that would likely feature on human weapons.
I’m thinking they would just change the animations of melees and assassinations, not their speed.
So the Tac Knife from CoD?
Yay, lets have Gears Retro Lancer all over again.

Brute weapons. Maybe the DMR? That combo could look good with a jungle camo skin.

Utility UNSC rifles of course, like the Assault Rifle. The Covenant Weapons would be tricky though.

No.

This. Everytime people come up with ideas, they are almost always rip-offs from other games/franchises.
This is the reason Halo 4 is why it is. Stop imitating, and start innovating.

Gonna change the OP. But I’ve decided rather than absorbing that idea just make it so it could be a reward for a certain commendation completion that allows you more assassination animations or it could just speed up regular ones, but never affect anything outside of the assassination; other than aesthetics of course!

K. Give me one original idea you have.

Explain to me the difference, then. What the Tac Knife attachment does is reduce melee cooldown. Which is practically exactly what was described in the OP.
Now that the OP is changed, it is much better. Purely for assassinations it makes sense.
If anyone ever played Gears 3, they would know how OP the Retro is. The bayonet run that can be done is insanely powerful as most the time it even clips you around corners. If that was in Halo 4, i would not even bother selling it to a pour soul. I would demolish it.
As for original ideads, honestly, there is not much to be done. Almost every aspect or idea has been used.
> K. Give me one original idea you have.
I don’t know why you are throwing the burden on me, I’m just saying be more innovative instead of taking ideas from other games. But if you insist.
A Power Weapon that has very similar traits to other weapons in Halo.
It would be similar to the Halo Reach Grenade Launcher, where you can only fire one projectile at a time and you can control what distance it travels. Similar to the Sticky Detonator where it can stick to its target.
But, it is only effective when a player has been stuck by the projectile. If stuck the enemy players shield will begin to deplete, but it won’t be like a power drain, but the projectile will simulate being shot, I.E the player will flinch (preferably descope) a certain number of times until their shields drain. Possibly the target could also have their radar scrambled while stuck.
The Power Weapon can not kill, but it drains shields and keeps them drained for 7 seconds.
It’s not the greatest idea, but its something.
Power Weapon:
The Speed Gun:
Enemies shot with this are slowed down, allies shot are sped up.
Gun must be charged to fire.
Speed change effects runs speed, firing speed, melee speed.
Gun does minimal damage. but affects a rocket sized blast area.
I have updated the OP again to include my ideas on a Halo EMP grenade built to balance out the AA’s better.

Ok, you got me. That IS what the OP describes, but I don’t think any of us want it that way- right? Just more imbalance.
Maybe not exactly a bayonet, but maybe a futuristic looking bayonet would look very cool. Cool idea OP.
> Power Weapon:
> The Speed Gun:
Just my personal opinion, but Speed Boost (and Damage Boost) just doesn’t work in Halo. Even as map pick-ups the advantage gained if far too great.
Speed Boost currently already affects run speeds and reload speed which is unfair but adding firing speed and melee speed is overkill.
This idea also resembles something similar to Far Cry 3 where you could give team-mates a temporary boost using a Battlecry. If the “Speed Gun” was a one time use, then maybe, but even then it really puts one person and a massive disadvantage.
Remember Omega Journey in Halo 3? It’s just unfair to slow/speed someone down/up, even the most slight change.
