So I know its only a demo but I was hoping for a more of a halo reach look, like a little less cartoon like and more real. I remember seeing the world premiere for halo reach and absolutely loved the direction the art work went but then H4 was announced and I was a little disappointed they changed it to be more cartoon like on purpose.
I liked the assault rifle at the start of the demo but after that it was like, oh… its on par with halo 5. Halo wars 2 gave me hope to think they were heading in that direction again but I had hoped for too much.
I’m not sure why 343 went down this road since they took over bungie but I’ve not really been a fan of the art style since H4, I don’t even play H5 because of the way it looks. If reach never came to the mcc I probably wouldn’t be playing halo at all.
The Reach Assault Rifle kinda looks out of place in Infinite…The Halo 5 one would suit better. But likewise, Halo Reach has my favourite overall in-game art style. Across all of Halo, it would have to be the overall art style of Halo Wars 2’s Blur cutscenes. That Mk IV armour is still my favourite set of Mjolnir.
I’d like for Halo to take itself seriously. Sure, it’s 500 years in our future, but that doesn’t mean anything. Star Trek took itself seriously. Of course, comical and bright can work for Borderlands too. But as a military-shooter, that just happens to be set in space, I prefer the style tone of Reach.
Apparently the graphics were actually somewhat bugged for the demo, and weapon wear wasn’t showing where it was supposed to. My big gripe is the lack of textures on many enemies and scenery and an overall very dark and matte graphics style overall. The silver hexagon pillars that held up the floating islands looked boring and untextured. The enemies had almost no glossiness to their armor (I personally liked the metallic looking old covenant) and surprisingly little texturing work. Halo 3’s elites had lots of lines textured onto their armor, while these guys are just solid colors, and the occasional light. They just look… flat. Ah well at least the new enemy designs are good models (no more halo 5 elite baby). In fact the whole world looked kind of flat, and had very little actual lighting to it. The graphics look to be kind of cell shaded like breath of the wild, but honestly the color palette was too drab in my opinion and everything was very matte (very little glossiness, even on metal reflections).

The Banished use a lot of stolen and cannibalized tech, from human and Covenant sources, so if they have access to shotgun shells they might as well use them. We do see Brutes using shotguns in Halo 2, maybe they liked how they worked.

That’s an interesting take, but I think it should look more distinctly alien. I honestly thought it was a human weapon when I first saw it.

Honestly would have preferred 3’s art style over Reach, but even Reach would be miles better than this…abomination

Calm down bungoboy, it’s not the art what looks off, it’s the engine itself, the new designs are ok, but the textures and ilumination are awful.

I agree with you.
I would like to see a blend of Halo 3 and Reach.
343 loves the plastic shiny look and I guess its easier to make.
Or maybe they have no artistic taste. I dont know.
But Halo Infinite will more than likely disappoint us again.
The only thing I liked in H4 was Cortana’s upgrades. Everything else was bad.
Well a more character driven story was a nice change. I liked the direction of “How does this war affect The Chief”

Don’t you dare compare that abomination to the Mauler! I’m just bugging, but I honestly hate how they took the design of the Mauler and made it a Brute pistol. I’ve been waiting since H3 for that gun to come back, and this was a slap in the face.
