How do I do this?
Halo3 I could just hit the “A” button and it would stop when about to search for a game.
I can’t hear my friends with it on.

Turn down the volume? Get in a party with those friends and raise the volume on that?
My voice controls are the same for friends/menu game music, it shares.
Why did they not give us an option to turn it down? It is going to make my ears bleed. I miss the distinctive “lobby” where it would turn off after pretending like you were about to start the game.
I agree this needs to be patched and fixed. Every other halo you could start a search or game and it would end the music.
Yes please make an update that turns off the dreary miserable background music in multi player…its annoying, it isn’t some grand musical score or anything, and it gets really old.
there is a special button that says “mute”
to the people that are saying “lower the volume/mute” how can he hear his friend(s) if there is no volume? -_-
anyways op, open up the xbox guide and go to the music section, pick any music you have, pause it, and exit the guide. all music should be disabled and you can finally hear your friends.

The menu music with the really annoying auto-tuned chick or?
Options 343
People like options…
Press the xbox guide button -> go to preferences -> hit voice -> turn down game volume and turn up voice volume.
Problem solved
I should have the option to turn it off and not have to adjust my volume settings to account for something that was available in halo 2, 3, and reach.

You should probably turn your volume down. The music isn’t that loud for me.
I would prefer it if the music was actually good, instead of a tiny little tease from the main theme, and then lots of electro-beats.
You know how Black Ops 2 has dark music for main menu/campaign, epic music for multiplayer menu and then dat zombie music for Zmbies?
Well, in Halo 4, I feel like we have ok-goodish campaign music for main menu and campaign menu, and then crap teasing for the other menus.
Put music on USB thumbdrive
Hit Xbox guide button.
Hit Right on d-pad
Select music on thumbdrive
Either listen to music or for none hit pause.
NO ANNOYING MUSIC
Everyone cheer!
Or you could go into the Forge lobby temporarily. That turns off all menu music until you back out into the Infinity menu.

This is truth.
My way turns off the music until you turn off the xbox.
Seriously though, why not have a separate audio setting for music. This is 2012 ffs, not 2000.
I have played through the campaign one and a half times. at first, the background sounds (music, crackling of fire, etc.) were fine and I could hear my own sounds, gun shots, Cortana, my voice fine. suddenly, I had problems and now the background sounds are way too loud and Cortana and my voice and my gun sounds are all muffled to the point I can barely hear them. any ideas how to fix this? I have noted here that some people have complained the music is too loud and others say it’s fine. in my case, I have experienced both and cannot find a way to go back to the perfectly good settings I started with.
