The title. I feel that we haven’t been told enough about them yet. Hopefully they’re included heavily in the next book etc. Maybe the SpOps cutscenes could go deeper into their characters as well as capabilities.
I find Spartans are usually the most interesting characters in the Halo universe, so delving deeper into them as characters, as well as their capabilities, augmentations etc would be really interesting. I think we definitely a cutscene like this as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vhIIeSo-_U
I was disappointed at how little 343i went into detail about the IVs in the LE content. I was hoping for a breakdown of the augmentations, but alas they seem to prefer vagueness.
The Thursday War should have elaborated on the IVs also. Another thing that annoyed me was the lack of inclusion of the IIIs, somewhat in Spartan Ops but mostly in The Thursday War. Traviss went to the trouble of actually developing Lucy as a character in Glasslands and then she, or any of Blue Team are never heard from again. Why bother mentioning that they would be brought under the SPARTAN branch? At least bring them up somehwere. Drill instructors, team leaders, whatever. Don’t ignore them.
At this point all we know about the Spartan IV’s is that they were all veterans of the Human-Covenant War and volunteered to become Spartans. Those who passed the requirements gained augmentations(though to how much extent is yet unknown) and that they wear a gen2 MJOLNIR armor system. There are between 6000-10,000 aboard the UNSC Infinity and unlike the previous Spartan programs like I and III these Spartan IV’s are known to the public and are an official branch of the UNSC military. What we can speculate is that the Spartan IV’s did not go through the same augmentations as the Spartan II’s because when compared to the Master Chief who is 7’3" in full armor, the Spartan IV’s are more like 6’4"-6’9".
Spartan IV’s are basically volunteers, much like project orion the original Spartan project they took volunteers and the best veteran soldiers, gave them slight augmentations and mjolnir armour and placed them in too battle, as well making the project public meaning they can make vast numbers of spartans with funding compared to that of previous spartan projects were funding was limited due to it being classified above top secret.

Project ORION or Spartan I’s were never known to exist publicly. The best of the best were chosen to undergo augmentation but there was something like a 75% failure rate which caused the project to be filed away and forgotten. In addition the ORION subjects were never given MJOLNIR armor because it did not exist until DR.Halsey joined the Spartan II program. SGT. Johnson is one of the few successful ORION soldier’s and this explains his exceptional combat skills throughout Halo 1-3 and why he could not be infected by the Flood.
Like others have said its unkown but a few things stand out…
They would not have the full aguements for vison and bone density and growth (this needed to be done before adolescence to be fully effective as after that their eyesight is pretty much done. the 3’s may offer a window to a degree with the fact the gene pool and washouts are not a problem anymore. They dont have the unit coheson of the 3s and 2’s (they werent hunted and shot at for their entire childhood so go figure) and they dont have the whatever it takes ideals the 2 had or the when in doubt blow yonk up mindset of the 3’s. Also id these guys are shown to the oublic odds are the pyscho dug cocktails given to the later companies of 3’s were not in their cocktails.
My guess is they are spartan enough to drive the gen 2 suits but thats about it. Most of the other augements would not have been anywhere near as effective and the mindset of the other teams never shows up.
I personally wonder how many 4’s it would take to stop a 3 or a 2.
4 teams for a 3? 5?
I meant to quote trangenitalshark.
Johnson couldn’t be infected because a plasma grenade exploded too close to him and the radiation from the blast affected his body in such a way that the flood parasite cannot penetrate his spinal cord or something along those lines…not because he’s a spartan I

Actually that was just the cover story for why Johnson was immune to the Flood, he is a Spartan-I. I cant remember who exactly said it but it was either Oni or someone who was in First Strike.

Um, i doubt much of what you said is true. You people need to stop making up crap assumptions about the spartan IV’s. I dont see why people hate them so much(not talking about you specificly). They’re just the next generation of spartans and im sure they wont be the last. It’s stupid to assume that they have weaker augmentations just because they are adults. Obviously some of the spartan IV’s are going to come out with better results than others (based on their genes). It wouldnt be impossible for some of them to be augmentated to the same level of the spartan II’s(assuming they have good enough genes). I really wish 343 would release some more info on them.
