Ok I’m a fan of the BR AND DMR. Now it’s no secret that people are pretty wild up about the possibility of the BR returning. I though would like for the DMR to return as well. I’m a fan of both weapons, so why not have both in the game?
This can have a bit of variety in the game. Instead of there just being 1 general human rifle, now we’ll have two.
I want to see the BR return as the staple mid-range utility weapon, and the DMR to return as a long-range specific weapon. Good for cross mapping, but pickup only, 5x scope, straight-accuracy, LOW rate of fire, 5 shot kill. VS the BR’s medium rate of fire, burst hindering accuracy at only long range, mid range kill.
I think having both in the game game will be cool. But there will have to be a way to balance out a weapon with a 1 shot and a 3 shot burst. It should be a very equal play, or one has to be more powerful than the other.
Check out my Halo: Reach Blog I make on a weekly basis. One will be posted every Friday. Please leave your comments on the blog, and subscribe. It will very much help me out.

I still think the logical thing to do is to include the pre-release version of Halo 2’s battle rifle that was featured at the E3 reveal (I forget the year). It fired a three shot burst when it wasn’t zoomed in, and single shots when it was zoomed in.
Having 2 weapons that have the same role doesn’t really make sense it just makes them redundant.
I think they should include the BR only. The BR in the books. See, it has two firing modes, Semi-Automatic, and Burst Fire. The Single Shot would fire similar to the Halo 2 demo BR, yet it would take a lot of shots to kill. Like 12 or so. The BR mode would have the normal 4 shot with three round burst. The zoom would be 4x while in BR mode, and 8x while in DMR mode. The DMR mode would be much, much more accurate, good for medium to long range encounters, yet would be extremely hard to aim at close range (Similar to the Sniper Rifle), while the BR mode would have a lot of spread, making it a Close to Medium range encounter weapon. At close ranges where an SMG or Assault rifle would be much more effective, it would be a little more difficult to aim, similar to the DMR now, except a little harder.
BR is better than DMR. DMR is boring as hell, so in the end gameplay itself become boring, because there is very few more effective weapons, and no one uses anything else in DMR slayer. BR does same work, but it’s just more fun to shoot in burst mode.
There is no room for both. I would rather have BR and some alien weapon like Type-31 Rifle from Halo Reach.
they should just combine them, like the BR in the old Halo 2 Demo video where it had both the single shot and the burst.
I personally like the no-bloom DMR better than the BR, but I still vote for the BR to be the only of these two to be included in Halo 4. The BR IS Halo.
does it matter? the carbine will still beat both of them.
The e3 demo of Halo 2 showed off a neat version of the BR. I really want that BR.

Or just make the rate of fire changeable. That could too.
That wouldnt work because it would be so unbalenced.
Why doesn’t 343 make a new utility weapon? Its there first entry into the Halo series, and you want them to bring back the main gun of previous halo games that Bungie made? THAT is redundant. Make something new and fresh!
Why do people always have mad love for the Halo 2 Beta BR? It wasn’t in the game because it was way too OP! If you wanted, you could have had a 1 shot rifle with 32 rounds in it, and 5 shot with better range than the BR. Also, it didn’t work when being forced out of scope when being shot at or when scoping in during a burst shot.

H4 is a sequel to H3 so there MUST be a BR.

Who gives a -Yoink- about what the canon says? Halo reach was before halo 1 - 3 so why didn’t master chief have armor abilities? And don’t say “because he was a spartan 2”
To be honest I’d rather just have the Battle Rifle (No, I’m not one of these “BRING BACK THE BR!” guys) as it makes a lot more sense to have the BR in the game that it does to have the DMR.
We see the DMR in Halo Reach is because the majority of the time we fight along side the UNSC Army, which use the DMR. If we fight along side any kind of UNSC forces in Halo 4, it’ll be the Marines, not the Army. Plus the Forward Unto Dawn had Battle Rifles, not DMRs.
From a gameplay perspective, they both serve the same role. The DMR was the Battle Rifle’s replacement in Halo Reach, just as the Needle Rifle was the Carbine’s replacement. Having both the DMR and the BR in the game would be like having the Halo 3 Assault Rifle and the Halo Reach Assault Rifle in the game. There’s no point.
They both look very similar too, so if they’re both lying on the ground next to each other it’d be pretty hard to know which one’s which unless you walk up to them and have a closer look. Most of the weapons in Halo can be easily recognised even if you see a player using one on the other side of the map.
Sorry but if either of the weapons is going to return, it’s going to be the Battle Rifle.

I think we have a winner. This is pretty much how I’ve always wanted the Battle Rifle to work.
