Halo 2 was a fantastic game. I played it EVERYDAY when I was younger (and could afford to) and even though I enjoyed the game as much as I did, there’s no denying that the game had A LOT of errors and also felt very rushed. While it didn’t ditract from the experience so frequently it was saddening to me that it had to be THIS wonderful game of all games that was rushed and suffered from it.
I’m only reffering to the campaign mind you. Multiplayer was fun to exploit things. Errors in the Campaign ditracted from the immersion, and that’s a BIG problem for a serious story such as Halo.
What I’m suggesting is that rather then giving it the graphical update, that they go out of the way to fix the errors or build pieces form the ground up. Jackal’s freeze if you hit their snipers, tanks fly if they run over Covenant shields, Scarab turrets dissappear when they recieve enough damage rather than blow up, things like that basically, and believe me, there is MUCH more, I just don’t want this to come of as a rant, because I am a fan of the serious and want to watch it grow.
If they re-release Halo 2 this is what I’d want them to add/edit:
-Fix graphical errors
-Fix dialouge glitching
-Fix the strange 360 glitches where the shadows from a previous area stay on the screen
-Have the skulls stay on a selectable menu screen
-Make the Shadow Covenant bus drivable. The instruction booklet says it is, but it’s not. I know it doesn’t add much, but it would be something new.
-Add some new things in the sky boxes and backgrounds, like Vampire class Covenant ships and broken Locusts in places out of reach.
-Add one more bonus level. Just one. And have it be a short level from the Halo Uprising comic book where the Chief boards the Foreunner Keyship (The ship at the end of the game that Chief is in) and fails to assassinate Truth. That part was NOT explained well, and I had to wait FOREVER for the Uprising books to come out to make sense of it. And yes, THAT happened but it was never shown in the games and it’s a much more fitting end to Halo 2 then that cliffhanger.
Totally disagree. Adding new vehicles and missions wouldn’t allow for it to be called a remake, more of an extension. We only need online MP, skull menu and remade graphics as additions. NOTHING ELSE.
Campaign:
-Update and redo the graphics.
-Enhance the skyboxes.
-Correct dialogue glitching.
-Have the skulls permanently available on a selectable menu screen after collection.
-Make the Shadow drivable.
-Add 3 bonus levels. Covenant Ship, Forerunner Tank, and Dreadnought.
-Add Terminals with actual bonus cutscenes.
-Add 4 Player online Co-op.
-Add “Rally points”.
Multiplayer:
-Add online Multiplayer with updated and redone graphics.
-Make every Multiplayer map available, including DLC and Vista maps.
-Add Forge.
-Enhance Custom Games.
Misc:
-Add Firefight with a map for every Campaign level.
-Add Theater for Multiplayer and Campaign.
-DO NOT ADD KILL BARRIERS OR INVISIBLE BARRIERS ANYWHERE THEY WEREN’T IN THE ORIGINAL.
But Galaxy Wars, the only New Level would be right at the end and it’s already canon. And would 1 new vehicle really hurt? It only appears in the 2nd level, and it’s pretty worthless, I just want to drive it because the manual fore Halo 2 suggests that I can.
Other than that they can just do the CEA changes and maybe some skybox things like Vampires way in the distance…
And to Lehnaru, I would like all of what you’re saying as well, but I don’t think 343 would throw in those 3 missions because they’d occur in the middle of the game and might break up the feel if they can’t do it right. After all, they didn’t write the script to Halo 2… they’d have to capture the feeling 100%. Maybe as bonus levels that don’t really correspond with the campaign… but I’d be fearful of their addition messing up the flow, with one extra level at the end with the comics to go off of script wise, you can’t go too wrong.
And Hopefully they’ll make Halo 4 or Halo 5 feel like Halo 2’s multiplayer so that when a Hao 2 remake does come around it can have a multiplayer aspect that feels the way it should AND fits with the new game as well…

A Remake is a Remake, you said that on the Thread’s Title. None of the changes on the Halo:CE Remake change Gameplay at all. Adding something else; a Level, Vehicle, or Weapon, would totally change the Gameplay and it would stop being a Remake.

A remake is a piece of media based primarily on an earlier work of the same medium. It’s not exactly the same. A remake is an original work that has been remade… not duplicated.
As long as they keep the campaign the same I’ll be fun, maybe even do what anniversary did, use a flip switch over from classic mode to modern mode since loved that.

Fix’d. I want the multiplayer 100% the same. Even the Graphics. They can still improve them though by fixing graphical bugs and glitches, polishing sloppy textures, update the animations, make the frame rate silky smooth, Up-scaling it really well to 1080p, adding anti-anilising, and updating the Shadows/shading/lighting a little. And maybe add a decent motion blur and Fullscreen shader, and parralax mapping.
There needs to be a rise in new Halo Games. Just going back to the Old and Reissuing things is only for fan-service. In terms of business, its a fatal flaw. Why buy something when you can already access the game easily. Combat Evolved Anniversary was made because it was the TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY in which Combat Evolved was first released and it was a sign of celebration and thanks to the general Halo Community.
Remaking Halo 2 with changes would be pointless. That’s just Nostalgia and wanting to live in the past blocking your views from Reality. Let us focus on Halo 4 and the Reclaimer Trilogy now. We don’t need to let “MAP REMAKES AND CAMPAIGN REMAKES” affect the new and ambitious journey that we will be taking.
People call them bullet sponges, but with 3 Carbine shots to the head and easily slain by a needler, I don’t think they’re broken… if anything too easy to kill.
As for those saying what I want isn’t a remake, I understand your thoughts, but to me, Halo CEA isn’t a remake, it’s an enhanced version. It’s the exact same game but enhanced. When I say remake it means I want extra things in the gameplay, like the Shadow, and the added final level from the comics. To REMAKE aspects of the Halo 2 engine and apply them to new things, rather than copy and paste and then fit new graphics, NOT to downplay CEA, It’s an abosulte treat and I’m a firm believer that all of the Halo titles should have a 360 port and work on it, which is why I am for a Halo 2 remake BUT AGAINST a Halo 3 remake.
I don’t think one level is too much to ask for. And let’s be honest, before the comics came out, did you know why the Chief was flying to Earth? I didn’t. It also shows more Truth, and enemy that I found difficult to hate for him personally (Rather than his actions) because he wasn’t shown too much and I know nothing about him. Having that level where he’s just in the distance is the closest we’ll be to the enemy, and it’ll make everything you do in Halo 3 feel MUCH MORE driven because YOU’LL KNOW you failed to kill Truth rather than reading about it, and you’ll make sure you won’t fail in 3.
Halo 2’s cliffhanger ending was a let down. I don’t think any fan liked it, and if they did… well fine, but the majority, the masses, they want clarity. Add the level. I’m sorry but I feel so STRONGLY that adding this one little thing that doesnt even break the canon would be the best thing for the remake of 2. I want to be the Chief when he wins AND when he loses. Don’t you?
Halo 2 should be remade.
But left the same as it was when it came out.
Theater mode is totally fine.
But Why would it need a Forge mode?
I understand the ability to make maps for Halo 2, but I’m totally fine with the game just having the same maps as it did back in the day and currently on PC.
