I want 343 to answer this..

Are you guys putting in more effort to match up your skill and preferences to other people?

Im pretty tired up getting teamed with people with no mics and or who are totally incompetent.

i remember a post over at neogaf from frankie stating that they’re going to be using true skill but in a more refiend way then reach.

hopefully this means that it will actually work this time around.

For one, it is extremely unlikely that a 343 Industries staff member will reply to your thread. Secondly, they’ve already talked about this a bit, and they’ve stated that the game will use the trueskill system, but built upon and improved from the one in Reach.

You know, there’s that “search preference” in Reach. I’m wondering if every single player in the world limits their search to the same, “Team Player”, “Chatty”, “Mature”, “Winning” settings, but a lot of people don’t follow through with it themselves.

I believe they’re refining the trueskill system.

It won’t work quite like it did in Reach, which hopefully is a good thing.

Too bad the preferences never work. It’s like they are sitting there for nothing.

yuuuup!! pretty much. I feel like its always either be the destroyer or be destroyed when you go in alone.

They aren’t refining it, they’re using strict trueskill. Reach has strict trueskill, and you can turn it on. If you do not, it just matches to first batch of available players. It’s not as though Reach used a different version of the system, it just didn’t have skill-based matchmaking by default.

The stricter search restriction does absolutely nothing. I use it. It doesn’t work.

Because most of Reach’s playlists are too underpopulated for the search to work properly. Add to that the playing with it off is going to severely skew the trueskill rating of every player in the game.

Agreed, the search preferences was a good idea and could have improved upon MM, especially if “DLC” or “players near to me” was available as options. Sadly, in reach they serve no purpose and have no visible/noticeable impact on MM, yet another good idea that Bungie released “half finished” and left to die. Hope 343i makes it better, makes sure it works this time around…

preffernces are actually used to boost some Achievements

What are you talking about? Either it works or it doesn’t. There is no skewing truskill or any other fairy tales. It doesn’t work in Reach. Majority of people can admit that. Why can’t you?

I hope this means, what I think it does… could preferences have more of an impact this time?

DLC?

I never thought of that… that should have been in. Assuming it would work, that could’ve helped solve some of the problems related with Reach DLC.

If they at least make a social playlist for guests to have fun and try out the game without frustration, it can help ranked alot easier.

They’re wild cards. There’s no way to track how good they are. Having them in there messes things up, even if MM does try to keep the amount even.

…At least from my experiences in Reach.

> Im pretty tired up getting teamed with people with no mics and or who are totally incompetent.

And I am equally tired of playing with super skilled players that I could never beat.

This is more of a Microsoft issue though isn’t it?

Okay, listen: when you play Reach without strict trueskill matchmaking, the trueskill system is still rating you based on wins and loses. Because the matchmaking system isn’t trying to match you with like-skill opponents, you win/lose ratio, and thus your skill rating, become greatly skewed.

So, when you turn on strict-trueskill matchmaking, the system is using a skill rating that is very inaccurate. Get what I’m saying?

And incidentally: I have had the strict trueskill work for me a few times.

Everyone gets a good game a “few” times. That is not the definition of working.

I’ll leave you in denial while hoping MM works in H4.

You completely ignored the bulk of my post.

And when I said a few, I mean that the few times I have thought to turn it on, it worked for me.
