I tried

to like the Multiplayer…

After initial disappointment, I gave the game more chances. For a short period, I started to enjoy it a little more (or forgot how great the previous titles were). But I think the verdict is in on Halo 4 and though some people really like it, I think most people that really enjoyed previous versions do not. There is a plethora of evidence and possible reasons why.

  1. The online population last night was about 75K. Extremely weak less than a month release (please spare me the exams excuse).
  2. The CoD elements didn’t really bother me all that much but now I think I see the impact. Playing BTB on Exile is an all out -Yoink!- fest. DMRs firing wild and everyone just running around frantically reminds me a lot of CoD. Ok so you have to fired 3 or 4 times instead of 1 to kill someone, I get it. Point is that it’s all ranged combat now and very little close quarters or melee. They should not have gone the CoD route with the perks etc. I think they would have been better off starting at Halo 3 or even Reach and done some different AA or something but not all out loadout customization. I really miss the bubble shields, power drains, weapon spawn etc. The only thing they really could have done in previous titles was randomize the weapon spawn so you don’t alway know where the rockets or sniper will be.
3)Everything is executed worse somehow. Ridiculous splatters. Grenades are worthless. When you stick a Ghost, it should kill the guy. The Needler, oh what happened there. Jetpack isn’t risky now because gravity is turned off again. Turrets are worthless as they take way too long to kill people vs. just DMRing

If it wasn’t named Halo, you would be hard pressed to guess what it was versus another run of the mill shooter. They did put in the Spartans in as the characters but it ends about there for the feel of it.

With the 720 coming out next fall and Microsoft looking for the next big franchise, it seems that Halo may be going by the wayside. Some people will buy Halo 5 no matter what. But I think there are going to be a lot more skeptics who will wait and see.

I’ll keep playing Halo 4 but probably less and less as I just don’t feel the compulsion that I did with previous Halo titles.

End rant
