I thought Halo 5 was supposed to have even matches

I’ve only played like 4 games of ranked slayer tonight and every one had vastly better players than me in it. I’m a Diamond tier 5. I just got matched against 4 Onyx’s whilst receiving 3 diamonds as teammates. Literally EVERY game I play against Onyx’s (which are 2 ranks above me, or 12-14 tiers ahead of me however you want to look at it) and it is not just slightly unbalanced, but so much so that it’s not even a fair game. Granted sometimes they’re not as good as they should be and I can go positive, but the odds of winning is so far unachievable on your own, or with a team of equal ranks, is nearly impossible. And if I party up with anyone higher than me, it will be matched against Onyx’s mixed with Champions.

I just don’t get it. I don’t care if we play higher ranks every now and then, but this is every game. And I should also be playing people of lower ranks periodically to balance this out. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a gold in my game as a Diamond, or anything that is only one rank BELOW me. These are the things about this game that I struggle with. I would play this game a lot more if it were as advertised.

You also have to understand that there needs to be some flexibility in order for them to actually find matched, so if they were low tier Onyx it would be about right for where you are. Believe me when I say that’s just the state of almost every game that’s out there right now for the most part. There are almost no close games anymore (really fun when you do get them though). At Diamond, you’re playing solid kids that are more than likely working as a team. That would have more to do with anything than the individual skill.

That’s exactly what I’m saying though is there is no flexibility. If there were, I’d also play ranks under me. If I’m going to play ranks that are 2 levels above me, then I would expect to play ranks 2 levels below me as well or at least 1. And it needs to even out the field. If there are Onyx’s on the other team and my rank is severely lower than them, it needs to pair me up with some people at least on their level.

I can understand the issues that would arise if I were an Onyx and I was partied up with some friends who were silvers and it not being fair for them, but I am by myself so it needs to be more fair than not on average, not so unbalanced every game. And like I said I’d be perfectly fine if it were unbalanced, if it weren’t every game and with me being the underdog. Halo has always been that way, it can’t be perfect, especially now with lower population as original Halos. I’ve always played no-lives that have destroyed me, but then you’d also get the game here and there where you can handle others too. This is simply not that

Maybe because it’s 2am and most people playing right now are the addicted-competitive people? Lol.
Also could have to do with the low population.

Well this was earlier tonight like 10pm West Coast so not that late. And this is when I always play, but it’s really not that late. Even in the middle of the night you might play people who are in the middle of the day elsewhere. And yes I know the population is low, but it still doesn’t explain why it’s unbalanced. Does anyone else in the Diamond rank notice this? Obviously people in the Onyx and Platinum ranks are able to play lower ranks because they are playing me, but has anyone as a Diamond played lower ranks (other than people playing their first 10 or parties with random ranks)?

Why 343 didn’t just go with 1-50, I’ll never understand.
It’s like they just refuse to include anything that resembles the original Halos.
They have to put their mark on everything, and destroy a once brilliant franchise.

Exactly. That’s what a team w/l system is best for anyways. The “category system” in Halo 5 is best for individuals, yet it’s counterintuitive because you’re only rewarded for what you do as a team.

I’m gold but I keep playing against players who are diamonds or higher and I’m with bronzes how is that balance?

Low population plus they made it to where the higher tier players find matches quicker. It seems like they’ve really tried to cater to a very small player base. With COD dominating the charts and The Division coming first week of March the only thing left will probably be Onyx rank and up. It’s obvious they wanted nothing to do with the more social/casual player this time around.

Just quit the game when it’s clear 343i’s garbage matchmaking has ****ed you over. You’re not paid a salary to put up with their garbage in order to make the experience more palatable to others.

i run into these problems too. This is what i don’t understand…and ill use you as an example…

8 players total
4 onyx on one team
4 diamonds on your team

This happens to me too…why couldn’t 2 onyx and 2 diamonds be on one team??

Im a plat in swat and last night I played 4 Plats and on my team it was me and 3 unranked players…really not fair. Don’t try and tell me that was random either! ive thought about taking pictures every time its like that

You realize Diamond is above Platinum right? Diamond 5 is right on the brink of Onyx. If you can’t beat Onyx players, you don’t deserve to be one. Playing better opponents is in turn going to make you better. When you play matches with people that are significantly better than you, most people tend to pick up a trick or two.

1-50 was broke as hell and i’ll continue to argue it until the day I die.

Speaking for myself as a gold ranked player…I don’t ever want to see a high diamond in my games just to “even it out.”

The problem you are running into is that ANY ranking system will always look like a bell curve. The greatest majority of players will find themselves in the mid ranks. The least skilled and most skilled will end up on their respective ends. Therefore those players will be subject to more extreme match ups more often because there is less of a player pool to choose from. I don’t think the answer is to put diamonds against Golds. Why frustrate the golds and decrease your largest player pop? I think what needs to be seen is better team balancing. 2 Diamonds and 2 Onyx to each side perhaps.

But no, stay out of my rank. I get owned enough by fellow golds I don’t need you thumping me too.

Im a Platinum in slayer. The other night I had a game where I got matched against a team consisting of 2 diamonds, an onyx, and a champion lol im sure you can assume how that went

Because 343 likes the smell of their own flatulence for some reason. Remember guys, these are the same people that thought removing post-game medals was a good idea…
