I Think We're Just Gettin' Started.

Okay, let’s get started…

As you may know, Halo has been starting to weigh more on to the Casual side in balance. Now before you start thinking on pressing the Halo 4 tab, read the rest, please.

Now, I think I’ve cracked what 343 and Microsoft, might be doing. Casuals seem to engulf our population faster and faster. Scorning the competitives. 343 then releases the thing that most competitives hate.

Casual gameplay.

So far that is what I know, I’m basing this on what I’ve seen so far. Anyway, This obviously will attract most casuals. Call of Duty, (It’s grieving to mention that name in my post…) attracts many, many customers. I think most of you know where I’m going with this…

Although…

There is still the matter of the competitives. If the game is casual, that will outcome in a huge decrease in the competitives. Even though, (Basing this on the sales number for CoD and other Casual Games.) there is more Casuals then Competitives, The percentage is too great to lose most of the competitives. So what do they plan to do?

Trick the Casuals.

Probably at this moment, most Casuals think the whole game is going to be a casual game. This may not be the case. What 343 might be planning on making the game, “Look” Casual. What I propose they’ll do, is win over the casuals, with all this casual hype. When in reality, The game is competitive. Now I’m not saying literally trick them. What I propose is that, The nucleus of Halo 4 will be Competitive, when the cytoplasm is Casual. I call this the Multi-Player Cell. Casual will not be the core of the Cell, it’ll be something like an “Addition” to attract casuals and make more money. The competitive is there, and Casual is building around it. So when an a competitive plays the game, they’ll be fine not bothering the small casual side, while a casual plays in happiness not bothering with the nucleus-competitive part of Halo 4.

Now I know it’s impossible to satisfy the whole population. But this might be their plan. If it is, it may work. If it isn’t, their way might work too.

It’s too early to tell.

Okay, just tell me what “casual” is.

> Okay, just tell me what “casual” is.

In the way I and these forums see it.

A Casual is casual.

Without definite or serious intention; careless or offhand; passing.

seeming or tending to be indifferent to what is happening; apathetic; unconcerned: a casual, nonchalant air.

I like your optimism.

Its not possible to satisfy everyone, and in a way I agree, but rather then what you said, I think they will rather trick the casuals and get them hooked to stay and eventually blossom into a hardcore player. This would be the good ol’ way, but its Microsoft, so rather then taking a chance, they may have already implemented what you have said.

I hear what you’re saying, but I doubt people will change their gaming style because of Halo 4.

Perhaps, Perhaps…

OP has discovered our plan! MWAHAHAHAHAHA! Soon, we shall have our evil takeover of the gaming universe! All will bow down to our sucky gameplay!

Jokes aside, really? It seems apparently evident that 343i listens to Waypoint pretty carefully. That is, after all, why they do so much work implementing things that Waypoint asks for into Reach. It’s the same reason they brought back the BR.

What do you want? They already re-made Halo CE, and Halo 4 looks like it will be mainly a mix between Halo 2 and Halo 3, with a couple elements of Reach thrown in for options.

Exactly what does this have to do with the post I had created?

You know, i keep hearing about the core experience of Halo. To me the true core, is the campaign. That is the core, that i what draws people in -Yoink!-! If you’re buying this game solely for the multi-player just get out. You call yourself a “Hardcore fan”. Freaking WRONG. You’re a multiplayer fan, you enjoy double digit numbers over having fun. I know what the true core of halo is, multiplayer is a bonus for me. I support innovation and change. I play halo because of it. I refuse to play CoD until it changes.

I am not talking about the Core of Halo 4. I’m speaking of the Multiplayer “Cell” (refering to the Nucleus is Competitive, and the cytoplasm is Casual.)

Grinning*

Core gameplay to me might not be to you. core gameplay might be H:CE, H2, H3, H3:ODST, H:W, H:R. Core gameplay might be allowing us to live the feel of the novels, comics, etc… I agree with the campaign, but Halo is a game that must, by its nature as a sci-fi realm shooter, evolve. If it doesn’t we’d still be playing a H2 or H:CE game ten years later and while many will say, “what’s wrong with that?” and my response will be, “Because a video game will never be able to do half as good if it remains the same. Never. If radical change like Reach does not occur, we will be left with a past of memories and nostalgia that will cripple and destroy this community. Don’t believe me? Look at history and realize EVERYTHING that tries to stay the same finds itself being torn to bits because it wasn’t willing to change.”. Given that, I’d rather see a Reach 2 then a H2. Now my vote, as well as others who speak for themselves and have created threads like this, is for 343 to create a core gameplay style that is unique to itself, that takes from all the games in the franchise and builds on the good, leaving out the bad. ALL of the games. Not CE, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, etc… I agree with them for a reason like the one above because the core of Halo fans don’t want a hardcore experience dedicated to Multiplayer. They want a system where they can have fun, one filled with innovation and change. I stand by that mentality for a reason, what stance are you going/willing to take?

Halo has been for casual gamers since Halo 2. Thats just the honest truth. Go play a LAN in Halo CE and you’ll notice a massive difference in skill level.

I really don’t mind the current focus of Halo. Thats maybe because I am a casual player and don’t take it as seriously as I used to.

Lol, they’d get so much hate if they didn’t bring back the BR, not because they listened to us.

its as simple as social and ranked. that should never change.

I was actually thinking of Castiel, but whatever you say.

Ranked …

Only time will tell

Just for the record, great title.

I, plus all my friends who play this game, agree. Halo is about campaign, you dont buy it for ‘comptitive’ or ‘casual’ freaking multiplayer, you buy it for the campaign (well people who are TRUE halo fans) and the fun with friends. Not showing off your skill in MM.

Casuals have entered since Halo 2. But the game wasn’t meant to be casual.

> its as simple as social and ranked. that should never change.

Yes, but what I propose they’re doing is make it “look” casual. When it’s actually Competitive.
