…is in need of the Rape Crisis phone number.

After seeing the new renders of the Pelican, I feel like making of those “You had ONE job!” memes for the Grunt and Pelican in Halo 4, comparing them to the Halo 3/Reach comparisons.

The Pelican, next to the Warthog, IS the iconic vehicle of the Halo universe. For 4 games, one of the community’s biggest dream was to be able to fly the Pelican and we damn near creamed ourselves when we finally could in Reach.

The design of the Pelican was nailed in the original Halo, and filed down a razor sharp edge in 3-ODST-Reach.

It was GOD. LOVIN’. PERFECT.

AND YOU MESSED IT UP.

This new Pelican is an abomination to the Pelicans of old. It looks like it belongs in a chibi anime version of Halo, like in “Odd One Out” or Gundam SD or something.

I know it seems like a small thing to get this upset about, but really, this is just another bit on the massive mountain of “WTF is wrong with you 343?!” that has been Halo 4 to date. Its like watching a massive pile-up on the highway, in progress. Sure, it starts with 1 car…not too bad…but then another hits that, then another, and another and then an 18 wheeler, some more cars hit, then it all goes up in fire when the fuel tanker slams into the pile-up (the CTF update) and now the first of the rescue vehicles just slammed into the wreckage and is burning with the rest of them.

EDIT: There, I fixed it. Happy?

It doesn’t look bad-yoink anymore

Language, child!

When did we fly a pelican in Reach?

everything. in. Halo 4. is different.

Deal. with. it.

> When did we fly a pelican in Reach?

You could fly a Pelican and a Phantom through an Easter Egg on New Alexandria.

OT: I agree that the original Pelican is iconic and looks really good. But I don’t think the new design is all that bad, it looks pretty awesome to me. It’s just again one of those examples that 343i really wants it to be their game and not just taking everything what Bungie did/made.

I like it!

The old Pelican is something I’l remember Bungie By

The new one looks … “weird” but not ugly

  • the new gun on the top will give it some firepower

“Hello 911? I’m in need of the Wambulance, hurry!”

Well done OP! I agree 100%!

MFW I saw the Halo 4 Pelican.

I’m sorry, but I’m practically at the breaking point here.

At this point, it might be dangerous for a 343i employee to be in the same room as me if they started talking about Halo 4. I don’t know if I could stand watching them beat my favorite shooter to death anymore.

Because that is what this is for me (and I suspect a lot of other people). This is like watching some neighborhood bully take a crowbar to your favorite toy over and over and over, and not being able to do anything about it. Except now the bully went and got his dad’s lawnmower and is repeatedly running over your toy, laughing, all the while he has a chorus of people chanting and shouting that you should be thankful and happy that he destroying your favorite toy because he is making it “better”.

And with Halo 4, combined with all the other betrayals and disappointments gaming has delivered these last few years, I think that a little self-censored anger is a nice reaction by this point in time.

I love you OP.

I agree and whats the deal with a pelican gunship and a drop ship? Are we limited to certain actions (if we are able to fly them) with each? Seems like a downgrade, the old pelican was a good all rounder but now they can only do one task or another? Wth?

> > Language, child!

November is going to be a hard month for you so good luck with that.( no sarcasm)

Question though, how do you play other games and enjoy them? Video Games with strong IPs always change from design to controller layouts to even formats from PC to console on each new release to some degree from massive to miniscule. That’s the nature of game design since the Arcade days.

I know this sounds like adapt, but really games change… a lot.

I only don’t like that glass part on the front. The rest looks fine to me.

> I only don’t like that glass part on the front. The rest looks fine to me.

I don’t mind the glass, its the tail bit which just doesn’t look like the CLASSIC pelican anymore

The Pelican looks -Yoink!- like everything else in Halo 4.

1: Moderator, get over yourself. There might have been implied foul language, but there wasn’t any in the actual post. It was either censored or replaced. Its a lot cleaner than the original, un-edited/ not-calmed-down version.

2: No, many things in Halo 4 are unsexy. Like 90% of the new MP armors. Or the new Grunts. The new Pelican.

3: Other game series don’t mutilate core gameplay ideas on a whim, without explaining or reason beyond “BECAUSE WE WANNA.”

4: Canonically, the Pelican can do both at the same time (they have missiles and many have a chin-mounted cannon). However, for gameplay, either AI or player controlled this would be too rape-y so they leave it out.

5: The Wambulance crashed in the rest of pile-up. Its on fire with everything else.

Gentlemen, my name is the Halo 4 Pelican.

Please, hold your applause.

I am a sleek machine whose job is to ferry our brave UNSC soldiers to and from the battlefield across a number of hostile environments.

Often, this involves spaceflight as well, but I get ahead of myself.

In the years since you last saw me I… Felt the need to get a few upgrades. You know, spruce things up a bit.

Well, Look at me now.

I am a lean, mean, orbital transport and re entry machine!

When I go from orbit to surface, you will all have the pleasant view of my new outward and non retractable machine gun turrets and their seated operators burning up in the re entry heat, melting off and causing a structural instability to be exploited later.

My dorsal autocannon is 50mm of sleek shooty goodness. Don’t let its +5 degrees of elevation fool you, if anything attacks along a limited horizontal plane, I have it handled.

And if you wanted to know, Yes, my pilot canopy is inspired by the Mil Mi-24 Hind. There won’t be anymore of that “Pilot having access to the passenger compartment” nonsense anymore.

Adding to my new charm is my excellent engine redesign. No longer will I have those sleek yet imposing fusion thrusters on large, flexible mounts for cruising through space and air as I wish. No, I received the full Harrier Jumpjet treatment; Making it even more implausible that I would be able to carry a 60 ton tank along with a quantity of infantry in my rear compartment.

My engine air intakes are both frontal, large, and highly exposed. I want everyone, and I do mean everyone, to be able to see them. Be it dust, or birds, or covenant plasma, I will flaunt my four air intakes to the world. I don’t even know what would happen to them on orbital reentry but it sounds spicy.

If no one could tell, this was all highly sarcastic. I know that Halo is the only game on the planet that has such a psychotic brainbug in its developers that causes every single game to change the designs of everything around, but why? And why do the designs have to start getting so much worse? At least the Phantom looks sleeker than ever.

Unlike the Scorpion tank which is larger than the German Maus. At least the Maus didn’t have an HE shell vulnerable hole in the upper deck.
