I Think I May Know What The New Weapon Is

So, the new bazooka we saw in the Vidoc … I don’t think it’s a replacement for the Rocket Launcher, and here’s why:

I was watching THIS VIDEO and at about 3:30 in, they show off some of the old pre-Microsoft Halo weapons.

You see the AR, which looks a lot like the AR from the H5 Vidoc (which is a clue), followed by an Anti-Air Rocket Launcher, and a Heavy Armor Rocket Launcher (the one we know and love).

The AA Launcher looks a lot like what we saw in the H5 vidoc, which leads me to think that they may be removing the standard Rocket Launcher’s lock-on feature (again) and including another AA Launcher (probably one that’s more scarcely distributed) to handle shooting down Banshees and the like.

Or, I could be wrong and they are replacing the Rocket Launcher with one that was left on the cutting room floor back in the late 90s.

Watch the video and let me know what you think. You gotta agree that 343 is definitely redesigning the AR a tad to resemble this pre-Combat Evolved version.

Pretty much what people have been thinking months ago (or what feels like). A guided 1st person launcher by using the aim stick.

It’s a good added skill gap compared to the automatic lock on that the Launcher once had.

that launcher looks nothing like the new one. the new one has hinges to be loaded from the side, but that one is an RPG that’s barrel-loaded. the new one is also a lot sleeker, without the box part in the middle or the attachment on the end.

It doesn’t seem to me that it’ll be an anti-air weapon, since it’ll be in the H5 beta which we know will focus on 4v4s on small maps.

whether it replaces the rocket launcher or not, I think it’ll work differently than the normal rockets, and probably be single-shot before reloading.

What exactly was the “Jackhammer” from The Fall of Reach? I imagined it to look like this.

I didn’t necessarily mean in terms of visually, just that there were once two distinct rocket launchers in early Halo development and that they may be bringing that back.

My guess is still that it will be a lightweight, player guided missile(think SRAW from BF4).

Rockets are pretty straight forward balance wise. You don’t really need a open beta to get them right.

A guided missile would be more difficult to fine tune and feedback on speed, turning radius, AOE damage(if any), etc would probably be very helpful.

I imagine it would also mean that rockets would lose their lock-on(which I am fine with).

I would be surprised if this model replaced classic rockets.

Perhaps it can only fire rockets if it’s locked onto something?

Guided first person rocket is cool, but what does it do to the holy grail of being able to fire your weapon at all times? I’m cool with it if done properly, but I can envision a slice of the population that won’t want their Spartan standing out in the open, oblivious to all while they steer a drone or rocket.

My money is on a Missile Pod (with lock on) replacement. I’ll rage if it’s a flat out replacement of the original Spankr RL.

The Jackhammer was the Rocket Launcher model seen throughout the series. Same gun.

I think the idea is that you drag the cursor around after firing to guide the rocket. Your viewpoint doesn’t change.

I agree with this assessment. Missile Pods always locked on to vehicles but you couldn’t carry one like you could a Rocket Launcher. Now there could be a RL that doesn’t lock on and a ML that does.

My fear is that it’ll be in all the 4v4 slayer games where apparently you need to have and control power weapons to win, and in Infinity settings everyone will spawn with both.

Maybe a Mortar? Fires powerful rockets in a very heavy arc trajectory, perfect for firing over obstacles and low cover. It’d be pretty cool to see something like that in a Halo game. I can imagine some epic CTF games where each team is using one to defend their base.

Or how about even a burst-fire rocket launcher? Fires weak missiles in 4-round bursts, with a rapid rate of fire. Good for fighting multiple foes at once. Kills in one burst to the chest, two with splash damage.

Perhaps it could be an RC Rocket Launcher. Projectiles could be guided mid flight by continuing to hold down the right trigger after firing, but it would have a smaller blast radius than normal rockets, and handling would be a bit stiff, so you would still need decent accuracy.

Anti-Air Rocket Launcher also sounds cool I guess
