I think I may have discovered the best AIM setting

(For rifles and scoped weapons/mid range-long range players)
Look Sensitivity: 5
Aim Acceleration: 3
Outer Dead Zone: 10% (-2%)
Inner Dead Zone: 12% (+2%)

I prefer:
Sensitivity: 3
Acceleration: 1 or 2 (depending on the day)
Inner Deadzone: 12
Outer Deadzone: 0

But really it’s up to the individual player’s preference.

I play 7/3/0/0

reasoning why you guys chose 0% for the dead zones?

Brand new elite controller.

That’s really bad actually (IMO, it’s all opinion/preference of course).

First, you don’t want any dead zones if your controller doesn’t need it. It’s a work-around to hide the fact that microsoft’s controllers suck. If you don’t have a faulty controller, the only thing you accomplish by using it is to lose precision in your aim.

Second, 3 acceleration is slow. Why would you want to slow down how fast you turn around?
I would disable it completely if I could, it’s another junk work-around to prevent children and first-time players from accidentally spending the whole match staring at their feet or the ceiling.

Try 5 acceleration with a lower sensitivity. You get all the precision & maintain the ability to spin around on a dime.

I tend to play on either 5 or 6 Sensitivity, and I just got a brand new regular controller, so should I just put my deadzones and my acceleration to 0, or am I missing something?

Thanks.
I’ll try out your suggestions.

I might also add that I use Kontrol Freeks too if that means anything :stuck_out_tongue:

Try 0 for both dead zones and if you get slow turn, increase the outer dead zone until it goes away. If you get joystick drift, increase inner dead zone until it goes away.

If you don’t get either issue, yes you are fine to just use 0.

Acceleration can’t be set to 0 or turned off, 343 forces us to use it. It’s a 1-5 setting with 5 being fast to turn around and 1 presents a massive delay when trying to turn around. But yes, I would tone down the acceleration as much as possible, which would be a 5 (perhaps a bit counter-intuitive in a way).

For reference, 3 sensitivity with 5 acceleration is about the same turn-around time as 6 sensitivity with 2 acceleration, just much much easier to control.
2 sensitivity with 5 acceleration is when it starts to become a bit too slow for close-quarters, though it can turn pretty much turn anyone into a GOD for aiming at every other range.

Acceleration only affects the time it takes to reach max look speed. Max look speed is based on sensitivity not acceleration. Yes you will reach max look speed faster but will not turn around much faster. Raise your sensitivity if you want to turn faster.

No.

Acceleration is the time it takes to reach max look speed while pegging. This is an important distinction which completely changes the function of the setting.

Max look speed is not the issue for turning around, the issue is the delay on pegging. That delay is controlled by acceleration.
Yes a faster sensitivity will also make it faster to turn around but if the goal is to turn around faster, it doesn’t make any sense to increase it until you have maxed out acceleration first.

Unless you peg during gun battles (as eluded to earlier) or prefer to turn around without pegging (not sure why anyone would want that), there’s no reason to start by changing sensitivity first.

The aim acceleration has nothing to do with speed and everything about the acceleration curve to hit full speed. The higher the acceleration, the steeper the curve. If you really want consistent movement through-out the throw of the stick, you need to lower it to 1. If you have the acceleration at 1 and a very high sensitivity it will have even ramp up to the full speed.

Mine is 4/2-3/0/0. Gives my enough speed to snap to the head, but enough control to stay on target.

Acceleration has nothing to do with speed?

You literally just explained how acceleration affects the speed of turning around. I just skipped that background explanation and went straight to colloquial speak to make it easier for people to understand. You are being pedantic without cause even though we are saying the same thing.

> If you really want consistent movement through-out the throw of the stick, you need to lower it to 1.

You always get consistent movement on the stick while not pegging or using dead zones, that’s literally the point I’m making.
Look acceleration doesn’t come into play unless you are turning at 100%, so unless you have the hands of a giant or the coordination of a child, there’s no reason to want it.

Again, if you peg during battles then yes, it’s a good setting. But most people don’t do that.

> If you have the acceleration at 1 and a very high sensitivity it will have even ramp up to the full speed.

No it doesn’t.

Have you even tried these settings at all?
Open a damn game and actually experiment, stop talking out of what you think should happen.

After days tuning my controller settings I finally had a friend bring his setup over. We did some side by side testing of CoD BO3 and Halo 5 trying to achieve BO3 sensitivity 5 with the updated control settings. This is near perfect. Accuracy increased 15-20%. Give it a try, let me know what guys think.

Elite controller
Looks Sense: 7
Acceleration: 1
Inner DZ: 0%
Outer DZ: 5%
Elite stick profile: Default

That’s pretty cool to actually have some side-by-side comparisons, thanks for sharing.
Definitely a +1 for reasons to use acceleration: being used to other games’ mechanics.

As I said at the beginning, this really comes down to preference at the end.
Simply feeling comfortable is hugely important, even more-so than finding “that elusive perfect setting” imo.

Can someone explain to me what ‘dead zones’ are? Thanks

I know the best, but I’m not saying because I want to be superior(even though I’m not).

It’s what you would least expect to be a good setting but it really is.

If you have look sensitivity at 7 then it will be more difficult to land headshots

I hate aim accel 3.
imo, shouldn’t have been changed in the first place (-yoink- you pro team for making it be a thing)
I play:
10/2/0/0
