You get mute banned after a lot of people mute you in a allocated time, not when ‘one butthurt kid reports you’.

Yeah, it’s not just when one person auto-mutes you, it’s when a lot of people auto-mute you. Rumor has it that it expires with time, but your only hope at the moment is to hope that people unmute you in the lobby.

Anyone can unmute you, I tend to unmute a lot of people who are automuted, if they are annoying, I simply remute them, I know a lot of others who do the same.
Do you play MLG? If you play a lot of MLG it is guaranteed that you will get mute banned, because those kids are too stupid to set their mic to team and party and mute everyone manually in the lobby, every game.

Agreed. While I don’t like trash talking (and I’m one of the few who doesn’t do it at all), the auto-mute or mute ban is just a horrible idea.
First of all, you should NEVER give players the ability to impede other people’s ability to communicate. Never! That’s something you simply don’t do. Yet it’s exactly what the mute ban does. Even if it takes 1,000 or even 10,000 different people to mute a certain player before the mute ban kicks in, this still doesn’t mean that this player actually deserves it. Humans have a practically infinite potential to be jerks, especially when under the cover of anonymity like in an online game, and the mute ban in its current form is something that can and does get abused a lot.
I actually know people who will mute other players simply because they can, regardless of what these players said, if they said anything at all. When asked why they muted them, they replied with, “because I can.” And a few individuals who are not in my friends list anymore muted other players in the hopes of them getting mute banned because they thought it was funny.
Secondly, even if a player deserves to be muted, this decision shouldn’t be made by some people for everyone else. If I don’t want to hear someone, I mute him. For me, and for me only. Not for anyone else. And neither should other players have the power to decide whether I should hear someone or not.
