I think I found a new graphics bug

So I was mucking around in 3rd person mode, trying to figure out a screencap that I could use as a new desktop background. I equipped my Spartan with a grenade launcher, as it is a firm favourite weapon of mine… then I decided to fire it. This happened.

Anyone else encounter this bug? It doesn’t seem to be unique to this map either, as I’ve tested it on another and the same thing happened.

It seems to occur when you hold down the trigger for the EMP effect. How long it lasts seems to depend on what angle you fire at. Sometimes it will last for a couple of seconds, and sometimes for the whole duration the trigger is held down. I’m going to test and see if the same happens with the pro-pipe.

Update on this! So I did some more testing with this and it seems that it occurs far less frequently with the pro pipe, but when it does occur it gets pretty freaky.

With the default launcher it seems that how far away the grenade is from the third person ‘camera’ has an effect on the bug, its intensity, and its duration.

A demonstration of the glitch with the pro-pipe can be seen here, along with showing that when the normal launcher round bounces closer, the glitching tends to last longer than when it bounces further away.

A second, small update/edit, if you fire a grenade then enter third person the bug will also occur provided you are close enough to the grenade, be warned that it will detonate as you enter third person though.

Third edit! I think that this bug is caused due to the grenade launcher grenade causing a slight static effect to the HUD when you’re close to it! It’s subtle, but if you leave a launcher grenade on EMP mode lying around and slowly walk towards it, you get a very subtle staticy effect to your HUD. It’s difficult to notice, but it’s there. A more intense static effect occurs on detonation of both the normal launcher and propipe, which I believe may be responsible for the intense variation of the glitch where the whole screen almost blacks out.

I know! I’m actually somewhat proud that I found it though. It could be used to make some cool screenshots potentially.
