I think Halo 5 is the greatest Halo of all time

Nope, you aren’t misreading that. I’ve been a fan of Halo since the beginning and I think Halo 5 is the greatest Halo of all time! Yup, I think it’s better than Halo 2, I think it’s better than Halo: Reach, and I most certainly think it is better than Halo 3 (horrible hit detection anyone?). Call me what you will, I like modern Halo better than “classic” Halo.

I honestly do not understand why Halo 5 gets all of this hate. It really is a marvelous game and it saddens me that some people barely seem to give it a chance at all. Also, if you say Halo 5 resembles Call of Duty or you think that Destiny is better, you just sound like an idiot. Halo 5 is nothing like Call of Duty and it is light years ahead of Destiny.

To me, the campaign is actually one of the best campaigns in the series. But I won’t be discussing the campaign here, because I already did that on another post. If you want to read it, you can go here.

This part of my review is strictly focused on multiplayer. I honestly haven’t had this much fun in Halo multiplayer since Halo: Reach. I played more than 6,000 games of Halo: Reach, which was enough to become an Inheritor twice, and I never thought I would ever enjoy Halo multiplayer as much as that one. But when I played the Halo 5 beta, I knew that it was going to be the best one there was.

And indeed it was! When I finally got to play the multiplayer of Halo 5 again, I was absolutely blown away. Everything I ever wanted in a Halo game was here and I was extremely happy. I started my journey by playing ten games of Team Slayer to get back into the swing of things. I acquired a Diamond 1 rank in that playlist, which I was very proud of, and all ten of those games were full of heart-pounding action! That is something I have barely ever experienced in other Halo games.

I don’t care what anybody says, the new Halo rocks! Sprint, Spartan Abilites, and the maps all work together so wonderfully and the flow of combat is so smooth. I would often find myself using thruster pack during combat and if I used it right, I could kill my enemy without them finishing me off at the same time. I found myself laughing so hard when I use ground pound because of the ragdoll effect on my enemies. The pace is so fast and so intense! It reminds me of Titanfall which I also loved and it keeps you alert and at the ready at all times.

There are soooooo many different combinations of armor that it makes me wonder why people complain so much about this. My friends and I calculated that there are a total of about 1.6 MILLION different combinations of armor which is utterly insane! Reach did have lots of armor and a bit more customization, but it NEVER had this many different armor pieces and I personally like most of the armor that I’ve seen. I do wish I could unlock armor by ranking up rather than unlocking it through req packs, but I also think it adds great replay ability. If there is an armor piece that you want, you will have to keep playing for it in order to unlock it just like you would if you had to rank up to get it.

Halo 5 overall is amazingly well balanced too. Your shields can’t charge if you sprint, no weapon feels like it has a huge advantage over another, you can still kill your enemy if they attack you first, and just like it’s always been, Halo still has its competitive core (something most of you begged 343 to do).

The Spartan Companies were an amazing idea! I am a competitive player and I was able to get more competitive players to join my Company. In MCC, playing with friends could be a nightmare, but in Halo 5 there are no problems with that and that’s awesome because being able to play with my friends and winning almost all of our games is always a blast and that just makes Halo 5 all the more great.

And I’ve saved the best for last, Warzone. Yes, in my opinion, Warzone is the greatest addition to Halo 5. Combining the elements of Firefight and regular slayer into one was an amazing idea. It is the most action packed playlist and therefore the most intense playlist. Not only do you have to defend and capture bases, you have to kill Legendary enemies to rack up points. It’s a nice twist to the game, because those bosses will decide whether or not you win or lose. And if you want to twist things up even more, play Warzone Assault which is an even more intense version of Warzone. Yeah, there may only be three maps right now, but more will be added later and honestly, I could care less. I could play on only Apex 7 all day long and not get bored of it. Also, regardless of what anyone says, req packs don’t win or lose the game. That’s up to your teammates and you.

At the moment, there are a lack of playlists, but more will be added in the future. Just be patient about it.

I don’t know what to say guys. I just don’t think Halo 5 can be beat. I love this game, I really do. I don’t care if you think Halo 5 is dead, because guess what? It’s not. If you don’t like it there is this game called the MCC where it holds all the old Halo titles for you nostalgic worshippers (BTW, MCC does work). In the meantime, I’ll be having a blast playing the greatest Halo title to date, Halo 5.

And its just the beginning…

I think it is a step in the right direction for 343. Anything is better then Halo 4 and this was a giant leap forward. I cant wait to see what happens after and see how 343 can make the next game even better then it is now.

Indeed.

I don’t think it is. I reckon it definitely got some things right, but still got some things wrong.

I personally enjoyed Halo 5 from the little that I’ve gotten to play. I was very skeptical before purchasing, and I have to say I wasn’t let down. There are definitely some gripes that I have with certain design choices, (spartan charge is ridiculous in arena, colors are hard to see for colorblind people like myself, and the radar is useless), but overall I thought it was a solid title.

Halo 5 is fun, but it is by no means the best Halo game.

Exactly. It’s great now, but just wait until we’ve got all those DLC maps!!! I’m so
hyped for that Warzone City map

I agree, Halo is easily one of my favorite gaming franchises and I have been having more fun in this game than I have in a long time.

It’s all personal preference my friend. You may not think Halo 5 is the best one, but I think it is. Just a matter of opinion.

Oh, is that so? I have been struggling to regognize teammates from enemmies especially in Warzone when distances get larger. Few times I’ve shooted enemy only to notice it wasn’t. I’m not even colorblind.

I agree with you sir.

100 % percent agree. I am a super soldier , that doesnt jump like a damn CRICKET. Where 1v1 it is my skill and skill alone that decides my fate. Ooo they got the first shot one me. thrust sprint jump… “reversal” dang my shields are down… teammate called me out … toss a nade off the wall, dang they got me… “FROM THE GRAVE” smirk… this is why I play halo.

“Reach did have lots of armor and a bit more customization, but it NEVER had this many different armor pieces”

Hahahaahaha good one OP

I agree. that has happend to me like 10 times

While I don’t dislike Halo 5 and I’m certainly not one of the constant complainers, it’s absurd to think this is the “best” halo yet. You either didn’t play the previous Bungie Halo games enough, or you are easily seduced by shiney bells and whistles that don’t have legitimate substance.

You can count the options for yourself. Reach had more possible combinations but fewer unique items. So less content but more ways it could be recycled (which is a pretty fair description for the whole game.) :stuck_out_tongue:

Well I’m glad that there ARE people who fully enjoy halo 5.

Substance? Have you tried Halo 3 gunplay recently? It’s finicky, floaty, and has a definite sense of getting in the way of what you’re intending to do. Halo 2 is even more so.

Was it fun back in the day? Sure, but nostalgia is a pretty poor proxy for objective performance. Story wise as well all bungie Halo games were pretty messy. CE got by pretty well because the bar for establishing a new setting was set pretty low (all you had to do was find the computer thing in the arbitrary landscape) but once a solid plot developed Bungie NEVER was able to handle it well (which shows up mightily in Destiny to boot.)

Halo 5 is the FIRST Halo game that feels like it has definite substance in all areas. Level design, AI, gunplay, writing, characters, it’s all there. You don’t have to project an experience in order to get something out of it. It does the work of creating a good video game through honest achievement, not [strictly speaking] mob appeal.

(ps. as for bells and whistles, it’s surprising you’ve forgotten about dual wielding, armor lock, and all the ways Bungie found to avoid developing FPS (ie. Forge, Theater, and Web integration) so soon.)

Honestly, I hated Halo 3 also from a MP perspective, so I should have clarified that Halo and Halo 2 were there best by Bungie. So, I’ll give you that on Halo 3.

You lost all credibility saying that Halo 5 has solid plot and characters. Are you kidding? The plot was a spasm that wasn’t even consistent with Spartan ops from Halo 4. Locke starts by “hunting” the Chief, then suddenly wants to save him. Cortana becomes an antagonist with no real setup. Btw, how is she still alive? Also not explained. So, Master Chief, savior of humanity, is suddenly a bad guy because he wants to track his AI (also part of saving humanity)? The story is shallow, frantic, an doesn’t even coincide with the previous game.

Explain to me how Halo 2 is “finicky”? Halo and Halo 2 are pure shooters, and they are unique. Now we are using customization and booster packs and looking down sights. This is Halo, not interstellar CoD.

You call it “substance”, I call it a shallow money-grab by stealing tactics from other FPS games that have already blazed the trail. Halo is become reactive, not proactive, under 343.

Again, I don’t think Halo 5 is a bad game. But it is not a pure shooter and it is not original. Too many people are drinking the Kool-aid. And the other half has unreasonable hatred towards the game. Bad combo either way.
