I think what made halo great might be gone and I have the feeling halo 4 is going to be a reach 2. The simplicity of all the other halo games is what made it fun. All these horrible additions like loadouts, aa’s, lame ranking system, bad maps, dmr, bloom, and a dumb in game scoreboard is what is ruining halo. I think a lot of the older people understand why reach is bad and a lot of the younger crowd will take whatever is given to them. The first 3 games were so amazing! Why would people not want to continue that halo glory with the new trilogy and not make the same mistakes reach did. I guess we will have to wait and see but I have the feeling it will be a reach 2.
Frank said in a gameinformer review that specifically that it is not gonna be like reach its going too be completely new and unique but when you turn it on you know its halo. hope this helps
Well that is good news. I thought I saw that interview or heard it somewhere but I must have forgot. Good stuff, I can’t wait to see what it’s like.
343 has made comments that this series will lean back to a more “classic Halo” experience. A very large portion of the community hated Reach, for many reasons, 343 is aware of this.
I think Halo 4 will closer to Halo 3’s MM, but with more of a balance of equipment and dual wielding.

Hmmm…
Classic Halo died with H3 my friend.
It’s not as if H3 was as simple as CE and H2 were.
And to discuss the rest of your list:
- Loadouts: nothing fundamentally wrong with them, just not fit for every playlist.
- AA’s: nothing worse than Equipment to be honest
- Ranking system: could be better, then again: H3’s system was whored to death and flawed as well.
- Bad Maps: look no further than H3 if you want to see more bad maps.
- DMR: nothing wrong with the DMR.
- Bloom: this is what’s ruining the DMR, and bloom is indeed quite lame. Then again: every Halo had “invisible bloom”…so it’s nothing new.
- Ingame scoringboard: What’s wrong with that? Seriously…and every Halo had those!
I think a lot of the older people appreciate a bit of variety in a series that they’ve played for 10 years now. I know I do.
It’s mostly the people who jumped onboard with H3 that you hear complain like crazy. Also: Reach is not an objectively bad game. I don’t like the Ocarina of Time, but that doesn’t make it a bad game. Same applies to Reach.
And of course the “younger crowd” (like kids never were part of the Halo community…don’t know if you ever played online…) is catered to more than the older ones. Guess why?
Because those 14-15 year olds of 10 years ago are now in their mid 20’s, and people of that ages stop playing games like they did. So their original fanbase is naturally fading out, and they need to keep a constant stream of new ones coming in.
Also: if you’re in your 20’s now, you’ve played so many games…something new and refreshing (even in a series like Halo) is very welcome in order to make it feel special.
I wish Bungie/343 Industries would stop trying to recapture the “classic” Halo feeling, primarily because it doesn’t exist. What people are actually referring to is nostalgia, which is something that can’t be recaptured. Why did so many people like the first Halo game? Because it was like nothing else that had come before.
To me other than CEA if halo 4 played exactly like halo CE or halo 2 i would find it kinda insulting cause I don’t want halo to be a cookie cutter game were its like they just added new guns and levels that is not halo. Halo CE did not have anybody to copy after it that is what made it so great. Halo 4 is a new trilogy with a new developer if 343 is truly out to make halo better it wont be a carbon copy of something bungie did 10 years ago. everybody has there opinion and its just mine don’t hate anybody for disagreeing just saying my 2 cents lol. btw sorry about grammar

-
Halo 3’s multiplayer was by far the most popular.
-
The rank system was a brilliant design but did have flaws and can be fixed.
-
Halo 3’s maps were topping the most popular out of the trilogy and Valhalla and Sandtrap and Zanzibar were perfect.
-
The DMR has no physical problems but it’s just a boring gun to use, you want to design something that’s fun to use, it’s the -Yoink!- entertainment industry. Single shot slow rifles is the worst thing to have in a sandbox game like Halo.
-
Yes bloom should be invisible and considerably lowered.
I love variety in games, always will but it’s when you tamper with the roots of what attracted you to play the game in the first place is when people get upset.
All they really need to do is update and invest in what made Halo great and re-introduce it to the new generation.

1: Because it sold most out of all Halos. If you ask people now what game they have most fond memories of, you’ll get the answer H2 in most occasions. Just look at the polls.
2: Rank system in H2 worked better
3: H2’s maps are generally considered to be superior to those in H3. Add to that: Zanzibar is a H2 remake…
4: DMR is only not fun to use thanks to bloom.
5: Agreed.

Now that would be perfect
Reach has good points and bad points, same as all the Halo games and any other game for that matter.
Reach good = net code, teamwork, graphics and scale, sprint, jet pack, recent dlc maps and tu stepping in the right direction. Hitscan and region filters are great. Anti modding and cheating and quitting measures improving. Faster playlist updates. Also anti standby is improved greatly. Party system refining.
Reach bad = polarised community, armour lock, Double sprint beat downs, nerfed camo, too vehicle dominated biig team and rang system not based on skill and required gaining rank over and over again. Mid range bloom too random. Solo skill not rewarded enough. Strafe not effective enough. Sword base camping.
Halo 3 good = maps, ranking, equipment, dlc was solid. Competitive play more balanced. solo play rewarded and one player could be very effective.
Halo 3 bad = cheaters bridging host and throttling plus standby etc. Decline of objective due to cheaters and regular teams vs. randoms. Bullet refunds. Host advantage. Modded Controllers.
Halo 2 good = quality maps, fast gameplay, solo skill rewarded, sword overpowered, sniper too easy. Hitscan. Innovative. Objective was popular.
Halo 2 bad = button glitches, super bounces, modding, bridging, standby, aim-bots etc. Skill and region matching sucked. Host advantage was massive.
So above s a sample write up to illustrate when being unbiased each Halo game has great poins and bad points. Hopefully 343i bring all that has been learnt net code and game mechanics-wise while also innovating and refreshing Halo. The communityy’s inability to accept changeand a new game system with Reach combined with the developer lack of community feedback going into multiplayer changes saw Reach split the player base.
I agree, but 343i already said that Halo 4 will be more classic than Reach.
> and a dumb in game scoreboard is what is ruining halo.
How is this ruining the game?
Ah, one of these people again.
Simplicity isn’t what made the past Halo games enjoyable, it was the consistency, replayability, and addicting gameplay.

Ya because they kept the game simple and didn’t throw a bunch of bs into it. Simple=addicting gameplay.
Classic Halo died with Halo 3. It’s sad I know. We can only hope they return to the old way… the right way… if they don’t were in for a rubbish ten years.
I think the developers at 343i are fully aware of what Halo fans want to experience as far as multiplayer goes. I dont know but I have a strong feeling they are going to be returning to Halo 3’s roots. As much as I have heard and read on the forums about people not liking bloom, popping shields to get a kill, and Armor Abilities, I have hopes that 343i have listened to the feedback people have been giving them.
Have faith.

I honestly hope that 343 doesn’t listen to the community to closely. There are a lot of problem with Reach, but what’s been the focus of the TU? Armor Lock, Invis, and Bloom, completely ignoring weapon balance, Jet pack, and Arena.

I agree that they shouldn’t listen to everything we suggest. I’m sure they have some of their own ideas that will benefit all of us. Hopefully they will have a beta for us to test out.
i love halo. NO. MATTER. WHAT.

The weapons were already made and established way before the TU so of course 343 isnt going to be able to balance weapons properly, but that doesnt make the TU bad.
OT: If you dont like Reach that is your own loss. When you see these so call “true Halo fans” that hate every little detail about Reach, it makes you wonder if the majority of the community is even old enough to buy the game themselves? People that think of Reach as a “baby game” cant be any older than 12
