The ranking system because they are worried people are gonna hate. What else could be the reason? I could care less about it but a lot of people are gonna cry no matter what!
One could say that, other theories is that they are still working on it, and will reveal it when they’ve finalised everything.
When I saw working on it, I mean working on the algorithms and all that juicy stuff.
We know this much, we will be shown it before November 6th, it is just a waiting game.
> I could care less about it but a lot of people are gonna cry no matter what!
I’m just going to leave this here.
And yes, people will likely complain no matter what 343i does. Everyone wants numbered ranking (1 - 50) back but I can’t see it happening - as “awesome” as it may have been it fostered an atmosphere of trash talking, cheating and second accounts - it just didn’t work and anyone who can remember Halo 2 & Halo 3 back in their hay day without the rose tinted glasses will tell you this too.
People give Reach a hard time, but at least I don’t see nearly as many kids talking crap to other people on voice chat over something as petty as a number next to their gamertags.
I really hope there will be some sorts of ranked competitive lists that’ll keep the people who take video games too seriously and get a -Yoink!- for shiny virtual rank away from social playlists.
The difference between ranked and social slayer in Halo 3 was dramatic, it was horrible to play with these people swearing at guests and new players in Halo Reach.
Oops, double post.

Funny you mention it because just yesterday two teammates were trash talking each other because one was a booster or something saying,
“Halo 3 has been out for how long and your still trying to get a 50? Your bad”
“Pretty funny how you only have a 50 in doubles… I would be deeply appreciative if you would refrain from speaking.”
It was much more dramatic than that and I had to mute my mic because it was hysterical.

Maybe it’s that no one cares?
I understand it’s an important system, but hearing info about it wouldn’t excite me in the least, and you would get a far better impression of how it works from playing the game yourself. It’s the kind of thing where it’s all meaningless words until it’s put into action and tested.
There is plenty of time to be shown the ranking system. If even they show it 3 days before the game comes out, people will still have time to decide whether they want to purchase it or not.
I imagine they are still tweaking it, with the tweaks being implemented in the inevitable launch-patch.

You =/= everyone

Can’t be. The game is complete! It’s gone gold

I’d like to hear some info on it, but what I was saying is that I understand why they’d prioritize info on Forge over ranking info, because Forge is easy and exciting to present visually.

Can you imagine what these forums would be like if they revealed it today?
Or they want it to be a big reveal since a lot of people care about it, Shocking I know.

Algorithm tweaks are a lot simpler to do, they can be done in a Day One patch.
The funny thing is everyone would be praising them if they returned an improved 1-50 but of course they never listen to the competitve community and then they end up with something like Reach. As a die-hard H2 fan who spent most of his time in H2+H3 ranked/customs its frustrating to see Halo lose its competitve edge when its such a great competitve shooter.

And herein lies the rub… Is it a great competitive shooter because of the way it plays, or was it a great competitive shooter because you used to get a rank for “skill”?
You have nothing to be worried about. Halo Reach’s Arena failed in every sense of the word, its population was bone dry and was a complete and utter catastrophe. The arena had only bad PR, no good PR, and much more PR was made about halo 3’s ranking system.
you’ll see something closer to Halo 3, I garuntee it

Both, the ranked playlists provided the competitve environment in which you could clearly improve your skill and play organized matches without playing customs. You can complain about cheating all you want, but it still provided that environment for the hundreds of thousands of players who partook in them on a daily basis. Arena is just not the same(its also one playlists lol) and Reach is just not as fitted for competitve play in the default as the previous Halo’s were.
I always saw Halo as the console CS, simple to learn hard to master.
Fun to spectate as well Halo will always be my favorite shooter because of how fun it is to play in organized LAN’s trashtalking your friends or just chilling in customs playing Tower of Power =) Regardless if H4 is like the Halo trilogy with good competitve play or not, I will continue to play Halo because its my favorite game and my friends play it lol.

Wha! Trash talking! Please. I just ignore it. And sure, Reach may not have not had as much of “an atmosphere of trash talking, cheating and second accounts” but it made up for it with the infinite amount of AFKers, quitters, and griefers getting credits no matter what they do. In all my years of playing H3 I rarely encountered cheaters and boosters. I’ll take Halo 3’s ranking system over the little league “You’re-all-winners!” ranking system of Reach.
> it just didn’t work and anyone who can remember Halo 2 & Halo 3 back in their hay day without the rose tinted glasses will tell you this too.
Sorry, bro. That’s just not how I remember it.
Honestly OP, I have no clue why their hasn’t been more talk from 343 about it. Maybe they are working with it like Moa said, maybe its an element that needs tweaking up till last minute, blah blah blah. Either way, we’ll know in a month, so I’m not too concerned about it.
Make no mistake though, it will be heavily criticized no matter what. From Halo 2 to present day, if their is a single element in every Halo game that is ALWAYS complained about, it is the ranking system and how it works.
