I only need 7 more kills, and after that I will gladly hand over the kill medals to anyone else. I try to do the same with some of the other big enemies like Warden, but Grunt Mech has eluded me for too long. Feel like I get only one kill a week.
Please, if you have finished this commendation, help the rest of us out by not taking the final shot. We’d greatly appreciate it.
Edit 10/30/19: I DID IT! I FINALLY FINISHED THE COMMENDATION!
Now, just as I promised, I swear I will never intentionally take the final shot on another Grunt Mech in Halo 5. Hopefully this helps out all the others trying to complete this commendation.
The best way is always well timed tank shots, especially Oni or Hannibal. Next would be, but you have to be pretty good at halo and know where and how position yourself, is to use the top tier sniper rifles (my favorite was beam rifle Delta) to take down the canopy and then use the DMR to shot the grunt in the head(it’s best to be to his right or left side especially from an elevated position being head on usually isn’t good because you can’t really get a good shot at his head.). I got pretty good at that and it can end rounds quickly.

I just looked at my stats and I’ve only got 7 more kills to finish my Grunt Mech Slayer commendation too. I honestly thought I was finished it with. Thanks, now I’m sad.
I suppose that you don’t know how to kill easily a Grunt MEch, you need to break the shield (I used the plasma brute) and kill the grunt with any precision loadout (br, magnum,etc)
If you can’t use any vehicle, try with level 7 snipers or lasers and damage boost. That’s my favorite combo for kill the grunt if I’m not using vehicles.
If you’re playing heroic, the grunt dies like 333% faster than legendary (I mean, you can kill it faster but your teammates can stole it too xD).
My normal method has been Twin Jewels Of Maethrillian for the canopy shield, H2BR for the headshot. Taking the shield down can be easy, but hitting that headshot is always a coin toss, even when I have the right angle. And the fact that he also repositions is such a drastic length, jumping around the map, means I spend most of my time chasing him, rather than taking clean shots. Sometimes, it’s incredibly easy and clean. Most times, it’s a stressful race. Someday, it will be finished.
I will definitely try some mentioned methods above.
hmm ok that kinda makes me feel awkward, I have no idea when i hit 5/5 for the grunt mech but i have it… I very rarely go against them in vehicles even with uber skills they seem coded to cause my vehicles to explode even if theres a mile of rock in the way. Only just recently I had a game where I made a grunt mech fade to dust after popping the unshielded driver with a kinetic bolts rifle… My bad everyone else who probably still needs but is sitting in vehicles hoping for the best! Maybe i’ll just shoot at the legs from now on

What some people have said already is the best way of doing it and is how I got mine maxed out recently, if you don’t have sentinel beams, use plasma rifles to knock out the shield then head shot the grunt. It’s a bit iffy and can be a bit heart pumping knowing the guy will die to someone else but that’s one of the quickest and best ways to get the kill without a doubt.
I finished it!!! Turns out the Sentinel Beam reeeeally works! lol

Ayeee good job mate, that’s probably the hardest AI besides maybe the warden out of the way haha.

I read this a while ago and now I know what you mean. Have seven more to go and I never encounter them or they are mini-bosses which apparently do not count in that statistic. Last enemy commendation (except marines bc I don’t play WZ) that i need to get.
