I suck, not having fun online.

Let me start straight off by saying I love this game, however my inability or shall I say difficulty adapting to the new abilities an faster gameplay is hindering my overall experience. So here I am at your mercy, humbled and in search of anything you can provide me to improve my skills. Tips, tricks, advice or if you wouldn’t mind online tutoring is immensely appreciated.

Only new ability you need to worry about is thruster. Use it to quickly change direction in a strafe. Works better if you jump before you use it. If you’re sprinting around a corner you’re doing it wrong, so you won’t need to spartan charge. You shouldn’t use ground pound because it will probably put you in a position that’s worse than before.

I created a set of videos for players just like you, just see what interests you and take note(s). Hope you enjoy.

wut he sed.

Keep at it.
Best advice I have is to pay close attention to the ins and outs of the maps while playing, learning the maps, where people are likely to come from, where people tend to hang out, where the power weapons are at - all that stuff helps you immensely.

Don’t sprint unless you’re racing across an open space, or racing to grab a power weapon first. Keep the weapon and nades ready.
Try the combo Sprint - Thrust forwards - Slide while thrusting (crouch) - jump at the end of your slide. It launches you a fair distance. It’s great for getting the jump on people around corners or for quickly crossing open spaces, and it’s super fun.

The magnum is an unforgiving weapon, incredibly powerful but you need to have excellent aim to be effective, use it at long range and stick to the AR up close until you feel confident with it. Always grab an SMG or storm rifle or br when you see them, they’re very powerful.

Think of every corner, blind or not as a piece of cover that you can hide behind. Assuming you’ve played halo before be aware of incoming nades, as soon as you break line of sight people will spam nades. Save your thrust for when the nade comes in, can easily dodge a chunk of damage there.

Thrust whenever you’re getting shot, it will throw them off and you might be able to grab a reversal.

But yeah, main thing is to think about how the maps flow and learn how they work. Keep in mind that people will spawn in places on the map where people AREN’T.

Its definitely a learning experience. I’m god awful and my KD is negative but i’m learning and enjoying it.

I can teach you the art of griffball if you are into that. I’m not the best at other gametypes but I do know a lot about them and how to win. Add me on Xbox One and I can make you a griffball pro.

I highly reccommend watching BBKDragoons videos on how to improve in Halo 5. I watched them when I was just getting back into competitive Halo and it helped a ton. (Link) He also does a replay review series where he watches his fans game play and offers suggestions on how to improve. (Link) Overall very helpful and friendly. I hope these help.

Also, don’t expect your aim assist (Sticky Reticule and Bullet Magnetism) to function properly if you’re non-american. It’ll take some time to acclimatise to other people’s aim assist to be working, and yours not.

If you feel like you are going to break your controller, don’t keep playing. Best piece of advice.

Took me a long time practising different aspects and just playing lots to get happy with my play level. You can do it too, you just have to enjoy it to put in the play time. It helped me a lot watching twitch streams of vetoed in FFA and Luke the notable has plenty of cool tips on YouTube! I am struggling to win FFA at the minute, but I just enjoy playing it!

Ps. Your at a very low level at the minute and have a much better k/d in arena than I had then and even better than me now!

Find another game to play…re-visit Halo in a week or two. Works wonders.

Please do explain this.

He is talking about the server issues…outside the US there is a supposed slight delay. I don’t know about it since I’m American

I’m going to second what a couple other people have said. Watch bbkdragoon’s tip vids, even the older ones, check out lukethenotable’s tip vids, and even watch high level streamers like vetoed; you can pick up things from their gameplay.

For getting better at one on one engagements and for improving your patience and resiliency in game, I highly recommend playing tons of ffa. It will make you better.

Play with friends, lean on them for support, only use sprinting for travel generally, the BR is forgiving, the SMG is even more forgiving, try to memorize the maps and callouts, know where weapons spawn, warzone is a target rich enviorment and thus great for getting your aim settled in, leave the sniping to others of if your not confident, don’t rely on the Spartan charge or groundpound, and the greatest tip I can give you is to sent me a friend request and play a few rounds with me and my guys. Hope this helps!

Happy Slaying!

keep at it, you’ll get better. tons of resources on youtube…my advice is lower your sensitivity, don’t sprint around maps and try to hide when your shields are down, and don’t scope in unless it’s long range… have fun!
