I suck at this game

i feel like I’ve hit a plateau and instead of evolving with halo 5, I find myself relying on old school halo tactics that just don’t work anymore. It’s incredibly frustrating. I know the skill gap is supposed to be pretty wide and i love that it’s challenging me but I could use some help.

I’m well aware of things such as the mason jump/slide boost/quick drop, I know where the hitbox is favored, and I’m even switching from bumper jumper to hell jumper as its a better fit for halo 5 I believe. But when it comes game time, none of this stuff matters. I’m still getting out played because I can’t apply this stuff and use it to my advantage. Any non noobish tips would be appreciated.

stop trying to play like the “pros” and find your niche

i play with default controls with 4 sensitivity and play more aggressive than i usually have in previous halos

i win some and lose some and getting used to the curve

stock controller and stock head set

you dont have to have a $300 set up or exact controls like the “better players” to get gud

just find what works for you

if you want you can add me for 1v1 customs to learn maps and tricks and target practice

Learn the maps and some of the trick jumps. Also pay attention to weapon/power up spawns, and try to work with your team. Also one helpful jump is: Jump-boost-scope (the stabilizers can extend your distance)-clamber.

I feel you i went from being a boss in halo to getting beat by everyone but i like it reminds me of my first time Turing on halo and getting threw that learing curve

I have the exact same thing happening to me in H5. I sinply suck at this game, cant seem to land headshots with anything scoped and am always hoping for SMGs to turn up. Really frustrating.

I went from being amazing at Halo 3, to just being “eh” at Halo 5.

This game hardly plays like Halo at all, so it doesn’t surprise me playing that way doesn’t work.

I watched replays to see what the players who have had 50 kills do. They all zoom in with the battle rifle or sniper gun. It’s frustrating I am unable to keep the target thingy on their head when they are moving around. Don’t look at my service record it’s sad.

…since when “Onyx in SWAT = suck at game”?

i’ve only just managed to get to Gold2 in Slayer with 0.6k/d - now that to me SCREAMS “I suck at this game!”

…you Sir, are doing juuust fine (;

Ha agreed,

Love this " i am terrible at the game " but have a positive KDA.

I have a 0.6 also and i love the game i have quite a few games where i go 20 kills 17 deaths and feel like a boss… The i get into another game of swat and boom 10 kills 25 deaths brings me back down to earth with a bang.

i feel the same , i cant get consisten , i can a a few games going realy great and then just unable to connect the dots in the next 5 games , its so frustrating , and no ida if its me or latency or a combination , if only halo had a indicator for latency it wood make it easyer to know if its me or somthing else .

  1. Do you play by yourself or do you have a group? If you were to get a group of committed players and just stick together whether you win or lose I bet you, and everyone else, would get better.

  2. Do you feel like you have problems getting kills or getting killed?

Cause if you’re getting killed too much the problem is probably positioning . I mean it’s always positioning in Halo, but in this game if you’re in a bad spot you’re really screwed. Are you thrusting enough? Thrust is everything in this game. If you’re in a pistol/br/dmr dual if you use that thrust at the right moment it will increase your odds of winning significantly. Seeing as you don’t seem to have a controller with any type of back paddles or buttons, you’re kinda at a disadvantage versus those who do.

If you can’t aim, well that’s just practice, and/or kontrol freeks.

  1. Like someone else said, watch videos of your matches. I did this back in Halo 3 more times than I could count. Just see where players tend to go off the spawns.

  2. Play FFA. Even if you get your -Yoink- whooped at first. Play FFA. A lot.

  3. Time the powerups. (This is why I say play with a team. The team that controls the powerups tends to win.)

  4. I feel like I could go on forever but those are some basics.

Forget old halo strategies. Consider sensitivity training (slowly building up your sensitivity on your controller) as I play on 10 and find when me and another person both thrust I`m getting hits back in alot faster then them.

Ha for some reason I have thought that halo 5 has been easier than the other halos.

Haha thanks for the feedback guys. All are really good suggestions! I do have a team but we all kind of took a break and started playing Elite Dangerous, that’s probably why I suck more than usual too.

I do do need to find my niche in this game but I’m not a very patient person. I think that lack of patience is showing in my positioning when playing and I also need to get better at thrusting.

Thanks again gor got the tips. Keep them coming if you like!

what are old school halo tactics?
If you hop alone into arena, it’s guaranteed that you won’t be as good as in other halos. H5’s arena is tailored to give lone wolves a hard time. Try some warzone instead, it’s better suited for solo players.
If you’re playing in a team of 4 and get stomped by randoms, then you guys r just bad.

I can play with you sometime if you like OP. Just message me and let me know. Have you learned things such as when O/S and Invis spawn on specific maps? Are you using SMG’s/Storm Rifles etc to your advantage as they are far more powerful than the AR for any CQC engagements and tend to always beat any precision weapon when in CQC. I would say obviously also try to team shot the enemy and don’t go chasing people who run away as it get you killed more often than not just call them out and hopefully a team mate will kill them if possible.

Not as much as I would like to be

OP I have the same problem. Its ok though.

I was ok in Halo 3. But that was a long time ago. Im older now. I dont think my reflexes are as good. I p lay on a bigger TV now (I feel that makes a difference in a bad way). I know the bad tendons in my thumb are worse. SO simply put, its hard for me to string together 4 shots anymore. If I am shooting at an openent who is strafing I usually land the first 2 br bursts then my aiming goes crazy after that, lol.

TO me the aiming does feel a little jerky, but who knows, like I said above it could just be me.My point being I accepted I am not as good as I use to be, and after I accepted that I been having a lot of fun. Which is what matter sin this game. In any game. I win some BR battles, loose some. Its ok now.

Just enjoy yourself and you will get into your own new playstyle.

I suck at this game too. I have always been a good Halo player, consistently being one of the best players in every match. But I come on Halo 5, and I feel like all those years of practice were worthless. Right now I feel very close to just giving up and quitting. I know there’s a larger skill gap, but that can’t be all there is to it. It doesn’t matter who I play against or what I do, I almost always lose any situation I get put in. I can’t even kill someone while I have active camo. They will find some way to kill me. And I just played a Team Slayer match where every single death was me getting killed by 2 or 3 enemies at once, no matter where I was on the map. I just…I hate this game, or rather my experience with the game. No one should have to try so hard to enjoy something, and if you only knew the things I deal with in this game EVERY SINGLE MATCH, you would agree when I say no one deserves the experience I have had with Halo 5. I just can’t take this game anymore. I’ve given up hope of ever enjoying it, and I feel deeply saddened that years of hard work and practice have been a complete waste of time and have not paid off in any way
