I still see freak-outs about the "perks" thing...

… And they aren’t what you think they are. Here’s a quote from Frankie:

“I think [the media is] talking about performance-enhancing abilities from Call of Duty, if we’re going to be perfectly honest. I should clarify that we never used the terms “perks,” other than when asked about them. That was a term coined in questions about our admittedly mysterious content.”

“We’ll be explaining more about the Campaign and Multiplayer systems as the year progresses, but suffice it to say that the new features we’re hinting at for Halo 4 will not be mirror images of the stuff they’re being compared to now in online conversations.”

Here’s the link to the original article if wanted: http://mp1st.com/2012/03/12/new-halo-4-details-no-beta-planned-return-of-the-battle-rifle-clarification-of-perks-and-much-more/

I hope this clears things up.

What we know about these perks is that you spawn with them, that already narrows down the possiblities for a succcesful implementation. Granted, we don’t know how any of them will work, but from the fact that we know we will get to spawn with them, we can conclude how they shouldn’t work.

Anyway, the perks are still a useless gameplay mechanic. It’s either that they end up harming the game, or that they end up being there just as a fancier way for armor customization. Whatever happens, the chances of them having positive effects to gameplay is around 10^-7923465%.

Oh, ya! We’ve got another brain reader over here, guys!

Look, I think you’re the one doing the majority of the misunderstanding. Does anyone here think Halo 4’s perks are gonna be exactly like CoD’s? Anyone? Hm… no. I didn’t think so. People use words to describe things, and in this case, the word “perks” was used to describe a system in Halo 4. I don’t dislike perks because they’re called perks, I dislike the system for what it’s designed to do: dumb the game down, make it easier to play. I’m not interested in such a system, regardless of its shape or form, being in Halo.

I’m afraid that most people DO think that Halo 4’s perks are going to be exactly like Cod’s.Search on the forum you will see half a dozen of posts which will be like "OMG, perks will destriy halo nooooooooo!!! 343 do not copy CoD!!! Halo 4 will fail, Halo 4 will suck "

That doesn’t mean they think it’ll be a 1:1 copy of CoD’s perks system. Like it or not, 343 are copying Infinity Ward. A perk-like system has become the norm, it’s what a lot players expect, but most importantly, want. Rather then make something unique 343 seems more pressed on making something with mass appeal. A perk-like system will destroy traditional Halo.

I do realise, however, that some players do think the perk system in Halo 4 will be like CoD’s. E.g., get 10 kills, call in some kind of Halo aircraft, mow down foes, etc… They’re not completely wrong in this assumption though, as even such a feat won’t be a mirror image of CoD’s. It could be a possibility. 343 have said nothing but PR crap.

Well -Yoink- you aren’t any better your smartness. And you don’t know how these perks will function, so don’t get your -Yoink!- in a knot.
